Bears add compensatory draft picks – Angelo rejoices

Chicago Bears GM Jerry Angelo was spotted doing cartwheels at the news that the Bears were awarded three additional picks in the upcoming NFL Draft.   The picks fall right in Jerry’s drafting wheelhouse, getting an extra 3rd rounder (#99 overall) as compensation for Bernard Berrian’s departure and two 7th rounders (#’s 246 and 251 overall) to make up for Brendan Ayanbadejo and John Gilmoreleaving via Free Agency last offseason.

For all the criticism he’s taken for his offensive drafting, Angelo has had a pretty good track record for drafting in the middle and late rounds, so the third round pick could be valuable.  The 7th rounders are likely developmental/practice squad guys like Caleb Hanie or Brett Basanez.  Oh wait.  In case you haven’t heard, they are in a stiff competition for the #2 QB spot while veterans like Jeff Garcia and Byron Leftwich are out on the street.   And don’t even get me started on the whole Jay Cutler situation.  What’s wrong with these guys?

Speaking of quarterbacks on the street, Rex Grossman and his creepy eyebrows are still looking for a new home.  How bad is the Bears QB situation when two years removed from Super Bowl starter, he can’t even get a sniff?
