Plaxico to the Bears…in 2011?
Well, you can officially cross Plaxico Burress off your wish list until at least 2011 Bears fans. The Giants will be heading to Soldier Field this weekend for a preseason game, but the former Giants wide receiver will not be making the trip. He accepted a plea deal to spend 2 years in jail for shooting himself in the leg in a NY club. So unless Jerry Angelo sends him a giant pin-up girl poster and a rock hammer a la Andy Dufresne in The Shawshank Redemption, Plax is out of football for the next 2 seasons. At age 32, this could be the [...]
Jay Cutler’s got the backpeddling thing down
Jay Cutler did a bit of backpeddling today after practice. This is the first time JC spoke to the media after he made his Devin Hester comments following his first quarter interception against the Buffalo Bills. Here’s what he had to say according to the Bears website: Cutler clarified that he wasn’t criticizing Hester when he said after throwing an interception on a jump ball that the Bears receiver “is more of a go-get-it guy” and “not really a back-shoulder, jump-up-and-get-it [guy].” “He’s a go-down-the-field and get-the-ball [receiver],” Cutler said Wednesday. “It was a bad ball. I didn’t give him [...]
Building the Bears 53-man roster
Roster cut-downs are still a few weeks away, but it’s something to keep an eye on as you watch the last three preseason games. In my estimation, some former standouts and fan favorites could be on the bubble. We’ll break this roster down several different ways in the weeks leading up to final cut down day on September 5th. I’ve taken the Bears 80 man roster in camp right now and put together my first impression of how the roster breaks down into 4 groups – Locks, Solid, Bubble, and Not Looking So Good. First, let’s look at the Locks [...]
Favre un-un-retires, Bears players react
It was too good to be true. It was too quiet, too easy. The bad guy doesn’t die at the end of the movie, at least not that easily. As you’ve heard a hunderd times by now, Brett Favre is headed to the Vikings and the NFC North got a whole lot more interesting again. All of a sudden, Jay Cutler is only third most significant quarterback acquisition this offseason behind Favre and Michael Vick. Turn the focus to Minneapolis and Philadelphia and let JC and the Bears get their act together. Word of Favre’s un-un-retirement spread quickly at Bears [...]
Brett Favre IS headed to Vikings after all
Just 3 short weeks ago, I foolishly told the ESPN trucks to turn around and head back to the East Coast because Brett Favrewasn’t going to be donning the purple and gold. Well apparently, he’ll be tooting that annoying Vikings horn this season. As I write this, Favre is on a plane en route to Minnesota to sign with the Vikings. Rumors that his plane was intercepted cannot be confirmed. Plenty more on the details and impact on the NFC North and the Bears to come. Buckle yourseat belts; it’s going to be an interesting flight. BEAR DOWN!!! Follow me [...]
FINAL UPDATE: Think “you know” Jay Cutler Contest Winner
FINAL UPDATE: We have a winner!!! Thanks to all who participated. We had a lots of guesses ranging from 21 to 57. There were a number of guesses of 38, but one apparent “you know” was actually a “you don’t…” to start a sentence. Close, but not quite. The official tally according to two independent sources is 37 “you knows” in the clip linked below. This excerpt from my auditor Louie (and how do you not trust a guy named Louie?) from the world renowned account firm of Dewey, Cheatum & Howe. In our opinion, the CPA Firm of [...]
I heard it called “the interception heard ’round the world” on the radio driving home tonight. I don’t know if I’d go that far, but if you thought Jay Cutler’s interception against the Bills on Saturday was a big deal, the postgame comments were something else entirely. Obviously, it’s all been way overblown, but all things Jay Cutler will be entirely overblown hereafter. Check out the video of Cutler’s press conference after the jump and then we can dive in a little deeper.
Bears stumble out of the blocks in loss to Bills
Don’t panic Bears fans. So the debut of the Jay Cutler Show wasn’t great. It’s OK. Did you ever see the first episode of Seinfeld? Not so good either, but that show turned into one of the most successful and beloved of all time. The Bears lost their 2009 preseason opener to the Buffalo Bills 27-20. Jay Cutler’s debut was probably not what anyone outside of Denver had been hoping for. It’s not nearly as bad as the 3 INT night that Kyle Orton threw in his Broncos debut, but it leaves plenty of room for improvement. Cutler went 5/10 [...]
