Bears Finish Preseason 3-1 after Victory over Cleveland

The Bears finished up the preseason with a 3-1 record after edging the Cleveland Browns 26-23.  Check out NFL.com’s highlight package here.  In typical fourth preseason game fashion, the starters broke more of a sweat during warmups than they did in the game.  Many of the regulars played one series, which consisted of one snap for the defense after Zack Bowman’s interception on the first play from scrimmage.  Jay Cutler played a series, but that included handing the ball to Kevin Jones, who left the game in the second series with an ankle injury.  It will be interesting to see the extent of the injury and how that might impact the final 53-man roster.

The last preseason game is all about watching the backups battle for the few remaining roster spots.  Here are some guys that made their case to grab a roster spot:

Johnny Knox – this kid showed great ability in the return game and had another long reception.  He’s a lock.

Matt Toeaina – he showed a good motor and the intensity that you want to see for someone fighting for a roster spot.  Not sure if he can break through, but did everything he could to plead his case.

Ervin Baldwin – had a couple of  sacks to make a case for consideration for the practice squad.

Brandon Rideau – had a TD grab in the red zone, showing some nice moves and breaking a couple of tackles to get to the end zone.  With Rashied Davis sitting out today, many pundits think that means he’s locked up a roster spot.  That doesn’t bode well for Rideau.

Up next, the Bears play at Green Bay to face the Packers for the season opener in Prime Time of Sunday night September 13th.  Bring ’em on!!!
