BREAKING NEWS: Bears’ Urlacher Out for Season
If you weren’t feeling lousy enough this morning, try this one on for size: Bears’ defensive co-captain, middle linebacker Brian Urlacher appears to be done for the season, according to the Chicago Tribune’s Vaughn McClure. Urlacher injured his wrist in the first quarter of Sunday’s 21-15 loss to the Packers. He was ruled out after halftime. When asked about his status Monday, Urlacher said in a text message that his “season is over.” He was scheduled to undergo surgery Monday morning upon the team’s arrival back in Chicago from Green Bay. A dislocated bone had to be surgerically put back in. The surgery [...]
Urlacher dislocates wrist, surgery required
Last night’s season opening loss could be much more painfull than the final score. Bears‘ middle linebacker and defensive captain Brian Urlacher dislocated his wrist and is set to have surgery to repair it. A timetable for his return is unknown. The Bears had already lost outside linebacker Pisa Tinoisamoa early in the first half with a knee injury, so this leaves the once deep linebacking corp extremely thin. It is especially difficult to replace Urlacher because of the ground he is expected to cover in the Bears’ Cover 2 defense, where the middle linebacker is expected to cover the [...]
Ugly Season Opener as Bears fall to Packers 21-15
ICK! I try to keep this site family-friendly, so I’ll try to save the expletives. Jay Cutler’s Chicago Bears debut made fans miss Kyle Orton, as Cutler threw 4 INT’s in the Bears 21-15 loss to the hated Packers. I was holding court with FanSided’s very own senior editor and Jay Cutler hater Adam Best over at Bears Game Day, the newest Bears blog at ChicagoNow. Doing a live blog for this game was painful. The first half was a cluster of 3 and outs and Cutler interceptions. The Bears were lucky to be down only 10-2 at the half, [...]
This is Jay Cutler, the Chicago Bears opening day starting quarterback. I am hoping, praying in fact, that he can finally put an end to end cavalcade of quarterbacks that the Bears have been trotting out since their Super Bowl XX victory. For one last time, here is the Bears quarterback hall of shame. To make sure I don’t crash the entire Internet, I’m not going to list all of the changes back and forth, just the cast of characters. According to bearshistory.com, there have actually been 42 changes since 1992 alone. Yes, I said 42. The Packers have used [...]
The Bears and Packers renew their rivalry as they open the season in prime time Sunday night. It’s the 178th meeting of these two charter franchises. Wikipedia does an awesome job chronicling the rivalry that’s been going on almost as long as the Cubs’ World Series drought. Damn, that’s a long time. Through the better part of the 90′s and early 2000′s, the Packers pretty much owned the Bears. No coincidence that coincides with Brett Favre’s run with the Packers. Lovie Smith made it his priority to beat the Packers and has done a pretty good job keeping his work, [...]
Meetup with Fellow Chicago Bears Fans
Do you love getting together with friends and foes alike to watch the Beloved Bears? Doesn’t it make the games that much more exciting when you share the experience with other fans? Nothing beats a Devin Hester kick return when you’re jumping and screaming with a bunch of crazed fans. I guess I take it for granted when I can walk down the street to any bar and feel that sense of Bears community, since I live in Chicago. What if you’re a transplanted Chicagoan or a Bears fan living outside of Chicago? What can you do? I was recently [...]
It’s almost here. Finally!!! I feel like a little kid before Christmas morning, brimming with anticipation. Then, after all of this waiting in what has felt like the longest offseason in histry, we Bears fans have to wait all day on Sunday before we get to open our presents Sunday night. At least I’ve got my three fantasy leagues and six-month old to keep me busy until Game Time. I’ve scoured the Web looking for previews and predictions for the Bears-Packers game Sunday night at Lambeau. Trust me, there is no shortage of “experts” willing to give you their opinion. [...]
Bears Catch First Break of Season in Steelers Win
The Bears haven’t even buckled up the chin straps yet and they’ve already caught their first break of the season. I was doing a little advanced scouting as the defending champion Pittsburgh Steelers hosted the Tennessee Titans on Opening Night. I liken this relatively new NFL Kickoff game as the present your parents let you open before Christmas morning, which doesn’t come for most of us until Sunday. The Steelers beat the Titans 13-10 in OT, but the defeat was costly. The Steelers All-Pro safety (and Madden 2010 co-cover boy) Troy Polamalu sprained his MCL and is expected to miss [...]
