Vikings vs Packers – What’s a Bears fan to do? Part II

facebooktwitterreddit

The NFC North leading Minnesota Vikings head to Green Bay to the face the second place Green Bay Packers on Sunday.  Some guy named Favre makes his return to Lambeau Field for the first time since he retired then unretired and then played in New York then re-retired and then un-un-retired again.  Keeping up with all of this?  This game has major implications for the NFC North and figures to be the game of the week.

The Bears had a golden opportunity to gain ground on the Vikings, who lost last week at the hands of Pittsburgh.  Instead, they laid an egg and dropped into sole possession of 3rd place in the NFC North.

So as a Bears fan, who should I be rooting for?  The Bears trail the Vikings by 2.5 games behind the Vikings.  They also have yet to face the Vikes  with two left to play.

If the Vikings win, they move into pole position for the division.   If the Packers win, they keep the Vikings within striking distance.

I hate to say this, but I think we should just root for the Vikings.  If they beat the Packers, not only do we pull into a tie with Green Bay for 2nd, but Green Bay’s season could be sent into a tailspin with another loss to Favre and the Vikings.  Sure, it is essentially conceding the division to the Vikings, but have you seen their remaining schedule?  It’s not looking too tough: BYE, then 3 straight home games with Detroit, Seattle, and the Bears.  Then @Arizona, Cinci, @Carolina, @Chicago and close it out with NYG at home.

Meanwhile the Packers have a tougher schedule on the way out: @Tampa, Dallas, San Fran, @Detroit, Baltimore, @Chicago, @Pittsburgh, Seattle, @Arizona.

So unless Favre and Adrian Peterson get injured and miss time, the Vikes have a nice path to the division.  After the disappointing loss to the Bengals, it’s time for the Bears to think Wild Card.  Am I crazy?  Who should Bears fans be rooting for on Sunday after the Bears whup the Browns?  Vote below.
