Nice analysis Stone. We might have to add you to the payroll. I think the quick fix is to go out and get a top WR (Boldin or Marshall) and 2 O-linemen. I think that gets the offense back on track. As for the defense, I think the problems run much deeper. I think you need at least one stud D-tackle, two safeties and a corner as a minimum.

The future certainly doesn't look bright, especially without our top 2 draft picks next year. The only way to fix this quickly is to spend your way out of it and we know how generous the McCaskey's are.

The most depressing thing about the Cutler business is not the 5 picks (which admittedly sucked). It's not the facial expressions / body language, although those are not very inspiring (to fans, or I suspect, his fellow players).

The most depressing thing is that we're likely to squander a QB with more upside than any other we've had since, well, ever. Consider our offense:

The RB position has a "serviceable" starter (Forte), a poor backup (Peterson), and a third stringer who shouldn't be in the NFL (Wolfe). Our FB might as well be the invisible man. Sometimes I have to check the roster to see if we even have a FB. His name is Jason McKie, by the way. He has 2 receptions this year and no carries.

The offensive line is cooked. Kreutz's best years were...when exactly? Guard Garza is 30 years old now and on a scale from bad to good he rates a 'meh'. Our left guard is a large turnstile with a long reach (Omiyale) backed up by a ceBennett nter-in-training. Our franchise left tackle is playing right tackle and looks like that will be his career position until the Girl Scout cookie selling season is over and we can pick up a replacement from the waiver wire. Orlando Pace is, amazingly, 486 years old. At least, that was the answer he gave the trainers after his "concussion" so he could get the hell off the field before someone finally broke Jay Cutler in half and he caught the blame.

And our receivers - where do you start? We took the most exciting return man in the past 40 years and turned him into a nice number three receiver. Well done, fellas. You can spin the big wheel and figure out who our number two receiver is. Lemme know who you come up with, because no one is popping to mind.

Our tight ends are not actually all that bad. They're not all that great either. But as a group, they're OK.

So the point of all this is: how in the hell can you expect this pile of crap to get better within the next three years? Keep in mind a) Angelo can't draft offense to save his life and b) if he does draft someone remotely good they will either get injured or won't be any damn good until someone else gets them.

You have to figure that, in the next three years you will have to fill:
Left Tackle
Guard (maybe two)
Wide Receiver
Wide Receiver
Running Back
Third Running Back

Oh, and you have no first or second round pick in 2010.

Oh, and your defense sucks, too.
