How about offering the OC to Brett Favre? If he hangs up the cleats this year, he could be a great architect for a new Bear Offense, and he and Jay share a lot - running gunslingers with strong arms who sometimes try to force too much.

There was a great article posted by buffalorumblings.com explaining how Perry Fewell is more interested in defensive philosophy than scheme. In fact, in his time as interim head coach in Buffalo, he was known to give teams 3-4 looks as well as his base Tampa 2. I personally think a coach who's willing to do that, is who I want coaching this defense. We know Lovie isn't changing the scheme, but he doesn't have to. What he needs to do is be unpredictable. Good QB's can shred the tampa-2. I think Fewell can help make the tampa 2 better, as well as, make our defense less predictable. As for OC, I think a young fresh mind like Bates would be ideal. I'm tired of all the St. Louis rejects. My feeling is Martz isn't working in the NFL for a reason. I'm just a fan so what do I know. My gut, however tells me that a Bates/Fewell combo might just be what we need to get us back in contention for a Super Bowl.

Great point regarding Clements Hunter. GB had a line that was arguably worse than the Bears and they made it work. I'd like to see some candidates other than Martz and Bates.

I'm not so sure Bates should be handed the OC job just due to his relationship with Cutler. It seems there needs to be a progression to these types of hirings and Bates seems to "fit" as a QB coach - at this time - at the NFL level.

What they don't need is the headache of Mike Martz and I truly don't think Lovie would sign off on anyone who could be looking to supplant him.

Not knowing too much about Clements up in GB, if he had any hand in figuring out how to make Rodgers so productive with their O-Line, he's the guy we are going to need in 2010.
