Free Agency Frenzy: Chester Taylor and Julius Peppers will visit Bears

AUTHOR: | IN: Bears, Breaking News, Free Agency, News, NFL, Rumors | COMMENTS: None Yet

The Tribune’s Vaughn McClure is reporting that Julius Peppers will visit the Bears at Halas Hall on Friday. No team was allowed to have contact with Peppers until the free-agent period officially began at 11:01 p.m., but Peppers had a strong interest in joining Brian Urlacher, Lance Briggs, and Tommie Harris on the Bears’ defense. The Bears were the first team to call Carey and extended a “substantial offer” that was good enough to get Peppers on the plane. Meanwhile, the Sun Times’ Sean Jensen is reporting that Chester Taylor is scheduled for a Friday trip to Lake Forest. Taylor [...]

Updated March 4, 11:22 PM Central The Bears are dropping out of the Antrel Rolle sweepstakes.  With Julius Peppers and Chester Taylor set to visit Halas Hall on Friday, I guess their dance card is full. Updated March 4, 10:45 PM Central It’s being reported that Antrel Rolle is set to visit the NY Giants on Friday.  I’m pretty sure it’s not to show them his new Bears jersey.  Lots of rumors swirling around, so stay tuned. Word out of Halas Hall is that the Bears are currently negotiating with Antrel Rolle.   You might be asking yourself, the free agency [...]

Tampering? Peppers could cost Bears more than just a pile of cash

AUTHOR: | IN: Bears, Free Agency, News, NFL | COMMENTS: 2 Comments

The Bears like Julius Peppers and he likes them back.  It’s the equivalent of an awkward  junior high boy passing a note to the popular girl that he likes and her passing one back saying “I like you too.”    OK, put your first stiffy away. I’ve heard and read a lot about the Bears having an interest in Peppers.  So far, I’ve taken it all with a grain of salt, thinking that the Bears were just getting their name out there in the mix to appease fans by being ‘active’ in the free agent market. Yesterday I read that the [...]

Sizing up Free Agent Running Backs for Bears

AUTHOR: | IN: Bears, Free Agency, NFL | COMMENTS: 2 Comments

At the stroke of 11:01 PM on Thursday night Chicago time, NFL teams will be making a mad dash at the Free Agent Market like crazed, turkey-stuffed shoppers bum-rushing a Walmart for a $200 laptop on Black Friday. When you’re on a budget – and we know the Misers of the Midway always are – it’s best to do a little research before going on a shopping spree to be sure you’re getting the best bang for your buck. Last season the second biggest disappointment for the Bears, besides Jay Cutler and his knack for throwing the ball to the [...]

Olsen drawing interest from Cardinals and Patriots

AUTHOR: | IN: Bears, Free Agency, News, NFL, Rumors | COMMENTS: 3 Comments

It looks like there might be some validity to the Greg Olsen trade rumors.  NBC 5 Chicago’s Peggy Kusinski claims that the Arizona Cardinals and New England Patriots are potential trading partners: Friends of the Bears TE say he was not happy about the hiring of offensive coordinator Mike Martz and quietly sent his agent Drew Rosenhaus into “trade request” mode. Now it appears the Bears may have some takers in the Arizona Cardinals or New England Patriots. The question is can the Bears trade Olsen man for man before some players like Antrel Rolle hit the free agent market? [...]

Olsen on Trading Block?

AUTHOR: | IN: Bears, Free Agency, Rumors | COMMENTS: 4 Comments

With the free agency period set to start on Friday (or Thursday at the stroke of 11:01 PM Chicago time), there are growing rumbles that the Bears figure to be players in the free agent market.  This runs contrary to Ted Phillips’ statement that the Bears won’t “go hog wild” in free agency. You’ll hear big names like Julius Peppers and Antrel Rolle bandied about, but those would be practical choices to address glaring needs for a struggling Bears defense.  If I asked you what position is pretty well set from last season, you might answer tight end. Even though [...]

Bears cut Orlando Pace

AUTHOR: | IN: Bears, Breaking News, Free Agency, News, NFL | COMMENTS: None Yet

If Orlando Pace is going to retire, he won’t be wearing a Chicago Bears Snuggie at the retirement home.   On Monday, the Bears cut ties with the aged tackle, admitting yet another Jerry Angelo and Lovie Smith mistake.  Maybe they could just pin this one on the recently canned pro personnel director Bobby DePaul and kill two birds with one stone? Pace swept into town in the midst of Cutlermania last April and it seemed like a good move at the time. It was clear that Pace was a step or three slow all season and an injury midway through [...]
