Few Surprises as Bears Release First Depth Chart

On the defensive side of the ball, it’s all about the slashes.  That’s the coaching staff’s way of copping out and not naming a starter.  It’s not as bad as it was last year, but there are plenty of co-starters or co-backups.

Mark Anderson and Izzy Idonije are co-starters at DE opposite Julius Peppers while the coaches can’t seem to make up their minds between Pisa Tinoisamoa and Nick Roach.

I asked this last season and I’ll ask it again – just pick a lane on these guys.  Here’s what I said a year ago:

What is this, Pop Warner football?  Does everyone have to get a certain number of plays or their parents will call Lovie Smith to complain?  These are grown men and professionals who deserve to know where they stand.  What’s the point of a “depth chart” if it doesn’t show any depth?  I think what the Bears released was just a chart.

A year later, the more things change, the more they stay the same.
