Your Brett Favre Sack of the Day
If you’re still feeling sorry for yourself after a pitiful performance by the Bears, maybe this will cheer you up. Brett Favre made his 2010 debut just days after reporting to camp. Samurai Mike Singletary and his 49ers didn’t go easy on Gramps: You can’t help but smile after seeing that, can you?
Bears Sacked by Raiders 32-17
Actions speak louder than words. We’ve all heard that phrase but it’s especially meaningful on the heels of another Bears preseason loss, this time 32-17 to the visiting Oakland Raiders. The words are what Lovie Smith and coaches spew all week about the offensive line grading out well on tape after first preseason game and how they like how the defense is coming together. The actions are Kamerion Wimbley rolling past Chris Williams for 4 of the Raiders’ 5 first half Jay Cutler sacks. The actions are the Raiders consistently converting 3rd downs against our #1 defense. The actions are [...]
Bears vs Raiders Open Thread
The Bears take on the Oakland Raiders this weekend at Soldier Field. I am actually going to a wedding this weekend, so my review of the game won’t be coming until later Sunday night. I know, who get’s married when there’s a Bears game going on, right? At least it’s preseason! Post your reactions, question, comments below and I’ll try to react when I break down the game film. If you go to the game, e-mail your pictures from the action at Soldier Field to beargoggles.boomer@gmail.com or send me a message through Twitter @beargoggleson and I’ll roll them into a [...]
Tommie Harris: The Window of Opportunity is Closing Fast
Tommie Harris took some time to sit down and chat with The Score’s Boers and Bernstein Thursday after practice. I’ve been critical of Tommie in the past and I still think he’s got a screw or two loose, but the dude just cracked me up. It was a great interview while I was stuck in some choke hold traffic that made the drive a little more bearable, no pun intended. Give it a listen: A few telling things in this piece. First was Tommie’s admission that he recognizes that window of opportunity is closing fast. I think he reflects what [...]
Former Bear Johnny Bailey Passes Away
Some sad news as training camp wraps up. Former Chicago Bears draft pick Johnny Bailey lost his battle with prostate cancer and died today at the age of 43. This from Chicago Breaking Sports: The Bears selected Bailey in the ninth round of the 1990 draft after his decorated career at Texas A&I (now known as Texas A&M-Kingsville). He spent two seasons with the team, making one start and rushing for 129 yards and one touchdown. He was primarily used as a return man and made the Pro Bowl the next season with the Phoenix Cardinals, averaging 13.2 yards per [...]
Bears vs Raiders Prediction: The Madden 11 Simulation
It’s the preseason for Bear Goggles On too, and we’re trying out a new segment: using a Madden 11 simulation to predict the games. Check it out and tell us what works, what doesn’t work, what we could do to improve the segment. I’ve got to give big props to Sam, his predication for the Chargers game was pretty damn close: he predicted 34-10 Chargers and the game turned out to be 25-10 Chargers. Not too shabby. On with the sims for Preseason Game #2, Bears vs Raiders. The Bears look to bounce back on Saturday night when they open [...]
Jeff George as Bears Backup Quarterback???
Sean Jensen hasn’t been around town very long and he’s already on my list for a LOWER THE BOOM post. Congratulations Sean! In today’s Inside the Bears blog, Jensen suggests the Bears consider Jeff George as a backup quarterback. Yes, that Jeff George. Former #1 draft pick… from 1990! Jensen spent years covering the Minnesota Vikings and I guess the stupid pills they were feeding their media people up there haven’t worn off. Maybe he’s blinded by 40 year old Brett Favre’s return to his Vikings or he’s discovered a fountain of youth. I can’t come up with another logical [...]
Bears Must Make Themselves at Home in 2010
The road is a tough place to play in the NFL, probably more so than any other sport. That’s why bookmakers usually give the home team3 points just for being at home when the figure out the lines for every game. The Bears open the home portion of their schedule on Saturday against the Oakland Raiders. Even though it’s preseason, it is a good time for the Bears to set the tone for the season. If they Bears want to stand a chance at making the playoffs, they’ve got to be dominant at home. Check out the Bears home schedule: [...]
