The DeCon’s Week 4 Fantasy Football Picks

AUTHOR: | IN: fantasy football, NFL | COMMENTS: 2 Comments

I want to apologize for those looking for a waivers blog from me this week.  Work has strongly detracted from my blogging prowess this week, but hey, it is what pays the bills so I have to prioritize my time.  Week 4, according to my guy, Hunter, is what separates the men from the boys.  Don’t forget the bye weeks start this week, so sit all your Cowboys, Bucs, ViQueens and Chiefs.  Nearly 1/3 of your regular season will be complete after this week, so come strong or don’t come at all…come to think of it…that’s what she said…here we go with my [...]

Predict Bears-Giants Score, Win a Free Copy of “Da Bears”

AUTHOR: | IN: Bears | COMMENTS: 3 Comments

It’s time to dig into the prize closet for the first time this season.  I know, I’ve been slacking! The BGO team recently hijacked a truck carrying a bunch of copies of “Da Bears” by Steve Delsohn and we’re looking to move ‘em quick.  Actually, we were lucky enough to get a few extra copies from the publisher to share with Bear Goggles On fans, but the hijacking story sounds better.  It’s a great book – check out City’s review here.  It’s available in stores now or you can try to win a copy right here. Rules are simple – [...]

Bears Are 3-0: Week 3 Observations of a Mad Scientist

AUTHOR: | IN: Uncategorized | COMMENTS: 2 Comments

The difference between a “Mad” Scientist and a regular scientist is that a regular scientist uses the Scientific Method. A regular scientist uses control, structure and rational calculation to pre-determine an outcome. But, a “Mad” Scientist mixes combinations and stirs ingredients in un-measured quantities because he is looking for the “unexpected”. The Bears offense was out of sync throughout almost the entire first half. It wasn’t until there was only 1:50 left that the offense seemed to gain some control of the game: 1) Defensive Pressure affects Cutler’s performance (sort of): Sacked 3 times Forced to scramble twice (but picked [...]

Sacks-less in Chicago

AUTHOR: | IN: Bears | COMMENTS: None Yet

The Bears are currently tied for last in the NFL with 2 – count ‘em 2 quarterback sacks.  I am not in any way trying to slam Julius Peppers because from what I’ve seen, he has been worth every penny.  I am trying to slam the rest of the Bears defensive line. With other teams clawing, clutching, chipping, doubling on Peppers, it’s time for someone – ANYONE – to step up along the defensive line, beat a one-on-one block and get some freaking sacks! How good would Alex Brown look lined up at the defensive end position opposite Julius Peppers?  [...]

Bears Midweek Notes

AUTHOR: | IN: Bears | COMMENTS: None Yet

Since we’re on a short week, I’m trying to cram five days worth of stuff into four days, so here come some rapid fire notes as your 3-0 Chicago Bears close the book on the Packers and look forward to the New York Giants. For my guy Hunter, check out the block that Devin Hester lays on AJ Hawk on this 35-yard Johnny Knox reception.   In fact, Bears’ color man Tom Thayer had it as his Play of the Week.  And while we’ve got Thayer on the brain, let’s check out the home audio highlights from him and Jeff Joniak.  [...]

Bears Behind Packers? Power Rankings are a JOKE!

AUTHOR: | IN: Lower the Boom | COMMENTS: 54 Comments

ESPN came out with their weekly Power Rankings today and their ranking of the Chicago Bears shows that they and their rankings are a complete and total joke!  The Bears, after a 20-17 win over the Green Bay Packers to move to a 3-0 record atop the NFC are ranked 5th.  Not bad you say?  Well consider who they’re ranked behind.  Yup, you guessed it.  They’re two slots behind those same Packers. To make matters worse, here’s the blurb that ESPN puts under the Packers’ #4 ranking: Clipped from: espn.go.com (share this clip) It’s hard to beat anyone when you’re [...]

Bears Beat Packers 20-17, Take Early Control of NFC

AUTHOR: | IN: Game Notes | COMMENTS: 3 Comments

The Bears are the last undefeated team in the NFC and have taken early control of the conference with a 20-17 win over the Packers.  Check out the highlights from NFL.com here. A couple of quick notes before I completely crash and burn: Game Ball #1 to the Special Teams unit.  Didn’t I say they needed to be special in my pre-game notes? Welcome back Devin Hester!  And  a Julius Peppers blocked FG to boot!  Nice job guys! Game Ball #2 to Jay Cutler because he gets his ass kicked over and over again and keeps getting back up.  It [...]
