Drivin’ Deez Nuts: A Defense Lost

AUTHOR: | IN: Commentary | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

In a season of anomalies and happenstance, it’s hard to believe in trends, but the Chicago Bears defense is starting to be a concern.  While, we all know that they can change games with turnovers and big plays, those have been few and far between recently. Take away the five turnovers they had against the Minnesota Vikings two weeks ago, and they only have four turnovers since Week 12.  They are also giving up 23.2 points, 368.2 yards and 21.4 first downs per game to opposing offenses. This is not the Bears defense that we are used to.

Blogger Exchange Program: Q&A with Packers Blogger

AUTHOR: | IN: Blogger Exchange Program | COMMENTS: None Yet

We try to get some outside perspective of our upcoming opponents and this week, Melinda Banks from FanSided’s own Lombardi Ave took time for a little Q&A session about the regular season finale between the Bears and Packers.  I answered some questions for her too.  You can read my Q&A here. BearGogglesOn: The Packers have been decimated by injuries this season.  Which injury has been the biggest loss?  If that player had not been injured, how much different could the Packers’ record be? Lombardi Ave: Without a doubt our RB Ryan Grant.  We’ve been searching for ways to create a [...]

Is Jay Cutler the Goodest Quarterback in Bears History?

AUTHOR: | IN: Bears, Uncategorized | COMMENTS: 10 Comments

I’m sorry but I just can’t use the other G-word when talking about Chicago Bears quarterbacks (yet). If Jay Cutler continues at the pace he is on and wins a Super Bowl in the near future, he may become the goodest in Bears history. Looking at Jay on paper, he has already performed better in two seasons than most Bears quarterbacks did in their entire Bears careers. Sure, the QB competition isn’t exactly eye-popping, but the Bears are a team that has been around for 90 years and has had what seems like 900 quarterbacks. I know Jay hasn’t won [...]

Bears Are More Than Just Lucky

AUTHOR: | IN: Bears | COMMENTS: 10 Comments

I’m sick and tired of hearing how the Chicago Bears are just lucky.  Any time this team wins a game, the national media are right there for ya, telling you how lucky the Bears were to win the game, like some galactic forces are willing them to victory.  From Calvin Johnson’s “process of the catch” non-TD in Week 1 to the blizzard that wasn’t capping a Round 1 BYE thanks to the Eagles loss to the Vikings, everyone has a reason why not to believe that the 2010 Bears are for real.  The latest is Yahoo! Sports’ Les Carpenter: Clipped [...]

Vikings Help Bears Lock Up Bye, NFC Playoff Picture Coming into Focus

AUTHOR: | IN: NFL | COMMENTS: 4 Comments

This has been the craziest NFL season that I can ever recall.  It’s crazy enough that a supposed blizzard moved the Sunday Night Football game between the Eagles and Vikings to Tuesday night.  It’s even crazier that the double digit underdog Minnesota Vikings pulled off the upset over the Philadelphia Eagles.  With the Eagles’ loss, the Bears lock up no worse than the #2 seed in the NFC and will know going into their Sunday afternoon game against the Packers if they have a chance for the #1 overall seed in the NFC. In order to secure the #1 seed, [...]

Four Bears Selected to Pro Bowl

AUTHOR: | IN: Bears | COMMENTS: 2 Comments

Winning always brings more individual recognition, so it’s no surprise the 11-4, NFC North Champion Bears will send four players to the Pro Bowl.  Brian Urlacher, Lance Briggs, Julius Peppers and Devin Hester will represent the Beloved the week before the Super Bowl, provided of course that the Bears aren’t playing in Dallas in early February. Brian Urlacher makes a return trip to the Pro Bowl, his seventh, after a hiatus since the 2007 game.  Fellow linebacker Lance Briggs makes his sixth consecutive trip to the post-season exhibition. Julius Peppers will make his Bears’ debut in the Pro Bowl, though [...]

Observations of a Mad Scientist (Bears “Mach” the Jets)

AUTHOR: | IN: Game Notes | COMMENTS: 3 Comments

What are the laws of nature to a Mad Scientist? They are simply elements to be manipulated, to be stretched and stressed and examined through conflict. A “peer” to our Mad Scientist once said that Energy is equal to Mass times the Speed of Light squared (E=Mc2). Our Mad Scientist chose this week to stretch the bounds of these three “laws of nature”: A) Energy – the Bears were supposed to lay down lifeless after their surprising conquest of the local town (known as the NFC North). Yet, somehow, the Mad Scientist (and his sidekick Ticegor) elevated the energy levels [...]

Da Bears Da-Feet Rex Ryan’s Jets 38-34

AUTHOR: | IN: Game Notes | COMMENTS: None Yet

It was a wild game at Soldier Field on Sunday as the Bears overcame a halftime deficit to beat the New York Jets 38-34.  Watching this game was like riding a crazy roller coaster without a safety harness.  Check out NFL.com’s highlights here. After the Bears jumped out 10-zip lead, the Jets came storming back with 21 unanswered points, including 14 in about a 1 minute span.  After a Shonn Greene TD run, Jay Cutler threw a pick-6 to Dwight Lowery on the next series.   An LT TD run swelled the Jets’ lead to 21-10 late in the second quarter.  [...]
