FYI, suicide is only thought as a selfish act by those who've never suffered from severe depression. While it's tragic, sad and a last resort; I can tell you that on the good days you may only think about it a couple times but on the BAD days it consumes your thoughts. A lot of people wouldn't deny a terminal cancer patient or end stage Alzheimer's patient the ability to end the pain but TOO many have a poor understanding of what someone with severe depression lives with EVERY SINGLE DAY. While I'm sorry that Double D chose to take his own life, I don't think what he did was selfish.

I have to say that you covered just about every point in that post. There is no way to paint a pretty picture of a suicide. It's a truly tragic incident and I hope that it can at the very least aid in the progression of neuralgic studies of former NFL players. One thing that comes to my mind is the progress that has come from the in depth studies over the recent years. If there is a silver lining in this it is that we truly have come a long way from the 1920's. I have no doubt that they will continue to advance the game and take any means possible to protect the people that dedicate their lives to entertain us.
