Andy Fantuz Talks About Signing with Bears
I told you guys that the newest Bear, Andy Fantuz was fan friendly. He did a little video-blog talking about his decision to sign with the Bears and say “thanks” to all his CFL fans. My favorite part was the talk about the Bears organ-i-zation. Sounded like a Blackhawks player getting interviewed. This guy had quite a following in the CFL, so expect some new Bears fans with a funny accent. Be nice, go out and hug a Canadian! BEAR DOWN!!!
Dent Gets Call to Hall
Hey Canton, “Sack Man comin’, I’m your man Dent; If the quarterback slow, he’s gonna get bent.” Another member of the 1985 Chicago Bears has been selected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame as Richard Dent’s wait has ended. Dent will become the 27th Chicago Bear to be enshrined in Canton, more than any other team.
Handicapping Superbowl: Last Pick of the Year
SEASON SUMMARY, BY THE NUMBERS Season: 3 Picks: 30-16-2 Upset Special: 9-7 Bears Pick: 6-8-1 Playoffs: 6-4 (Last week 1-1) About 2 Weeks Ago: I’ll be real honest with you, it feels like eons ago. I had the privilege of joining BearGogglesOn Captain at the game and despite the outcome, it was still a super exciting place to be. The Bears could’ve beat the Packers, but didn’t. The Packers have a better team and you have to give them a lot of credit for overcoming the injuries that they had this year. Any team can win on any Sunday and the [...]
Bears Sign CFL Receiver Andy Fantuz
The Bears made what seems like a minor move on the surface but has gotten a lot of buzz on the interwebs – they signed wide receiver Andy Fantuz from the Canadian Football League. Here’s a blurb from the Trib’s writeup on the deal: The 6-foot-4, 220-pound Fantuz caught 87 passes for 1,380 yards and six touchdowns this past season for the Saskatchewan Roughriders and was the first Canadian-born player to lead the league in receiving since 1995. According to the Trib, he turned down similar offers from the Steelers, Patriots and almost-Canadian Buffalo Bills to sign with the Bears. [...]
Bears Hire Phair
The Bears made a move to fill out their coaching staff on Thursday, hiring former Seahawks assistant Mike Phair to replace Eric Washington to coach their defensive line. Washington left the Bears to take the same job for former Bears’ DC Ron Rivera, who became head coach for the Carolina Panthers. You might recall that before Washington, Rod Marinelli was the D-line coach; often being touted as the best in the business. With ties to the Seahawks and Tamp Bay Bucs, this smacks of a Tim Ruskell hire. Ruskell is Jerry Angelo’s right hand man who GM’ed the Seahawks before [...]
Bear Goggles On would like to extend our deepest sympathies to head coach Lovie Smith on the passing of his mother Mae at the age of 77. Here’s the scoop from Chicago Breaking Sports: Mae Smith had long suffered from diabetes. Gregory Dearion of Dearion & Davis Funeral Parlor in Gladewater said her funeral is scheduled for Saturday afternoon at Jarvis Christian College in Hawkins, Texas. Dearion said Smith’s husband died in 1996. Born in the small East Texas town of Big Sandy, Mae Evelyn Chalk Smith was a longtime resident of nearby Tyler. In a 2007 interview with the [...]
