Chicago Bears Select Wisconsin OT Gabe Carimi

With the 29th pick in the 2011 draft, the Chicago Bears have selected Wisconsin offensive tackle Gabe Carimi.  The massive 6’7″ 314 pound Carmi could very fit in as a right tackle for the Bears, moving last season’s promising RT J’Marcus Webb to the left tackle spot.

Carimi came off as a little cocky at the NFL Combine with this little gem:

"“I know I’m the best tackle out there,” Carimi said at the NFL Scouting Combine in February. “So I’m just going to play like it and act like it.”"

That’s OK, I like my offensive linemen a little cocky.  Now it’s time to back it up.

There were some tense moments leading up to the Bears first first round selection since 2009 including some reports of a botched trade attempt with the Baltimore Ravens at #26, causing them to miss getting their selection in time.

Plenty more to follow, including (hopefully) some insight into the trade that never was along with more coverage of the rest of the draft.
