This is a testament to how deep we’ll dig for a post during the lockout. Remember the Bears’ 2007 trip to the NFC Championship? You know, the game they WON over the New Orleans Saints, sending them to Super Bowl XLI? Most Bears fans will remember that game very fondly. You know who won’t? New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin and not because his New Orleans Saints lost the game. It turns out that Nagin and his entourage acquired tickets to the game through a New Orleans vendor, who purchased the tickets from Casey Urlacher, the Scrappy Doo to Brian Urlacher’s [...]
Bears Rookie Minicamp is Lockout Casualty
The draft helped us forget about the NFL lockout, if only for a few days. Now it’s back to business as usual, or lack of business as the case may be. In the fleeting moments when the lockout was lifted, before a stay of the injunction was granted, the Bears had a rookie minicamp scheduled for May 6-8, which ended up being a casualty of the lockout. Instead of getting to recap how Gabe Carimi, Stephen Paea and the rest of the rookies looked in shorts and shells this past weekend, we don’t have anything to discuss. In the meantime, [...]
A Reading from the Second Letter of Ditka to Cutler
A reading from the Second Letter of Ditka to Cutler Da Coach spoke to the Denver Post about the lockout and other odds and ends recently and the subject of Jay Cutler came up: “Jay Cutler is a talent,” Ditka said. “Nobody will argue that. I think part of playing quarterback is talent. The most important part of playing quarterback is leadership. And the way you act and the way you conduct yourself around your teammates on the sideline, with the media, all those things. “Now, I can’t speak for Jay in the sense of, I don’t know what being [...]
2011 NFL Draft Fantasy Football Implications – WRs
In the third part of my series, I wanted to take a look at WRs. You can also check out my analysis on the rookie RBs and QBs from earlier this week. Personally, I have never been a fan of rookie WRs. They always come into the league with a lot of promise, but very seldom will they make a big impact fantasy football-wise. Take for instance these 4 WRs from the past and present: Jerry Rice, Marvin Harrison, Andre Johnson and Calvin Johnson…what would you think the combined rookie stats (Rec/Yds/TDs) for these stud WRs would be? Find out after the jump…
Flashback: 1965 Chicago Bears Team Highlights
Now that we’re in full offseason mode, I thought it would be fun to brush up on our Bears history. Thanks to the power of Hulu and NFL Films, I can bring you a highlight reel from the 1965 season. The 1965 Bears were highlighted by a pair of rookies – Gale Sayers on offense and Dick Butkus. Perhaps you’ve heard of them? Talk about a draft class that today’s Bears won’t match any time soon!
Bears A Long Shot to Win Super Bowl XLVI
Don’t go booking tickets to Indianapolis for Super Bowl XLVI in February 2012 just yet, at least not if you’re a Bears fan. According to Bodog.com, the Chicago Bears are a long shot to win the title in the upcoming season, going off as a 28-1 shot. It’s a little surprising that a team that was a few plays away from representing the NFC in Super Bowl XLV last season would be so far down the list of contenders. Check out the full list after the jump.
George McCaskey Takes Over the Bears
If you felt a disturbance in The Force on Thursday morning, it’s because the McCaskeys were busy passing the torch from Michael to younger brother George. George McCaskey, former head of the Bears’ ticket office, takes over as Chairman of the Board after over a year of transition. Here’s Georgie on taking over the founding franchise in the NFL: “It’s humbling and exciting,” said George McCaskey, the eighth oldest of Ed and Virginia McCaskey’s 11 children. “All that my brothers and sisters are asking of me is everything that I’ve got, and I’m sure Bears fans expect nothing less than [...]
2011 NFL Draft Fantasy Football Implications – RBs
In the second edition of the series, I wanted to have a look at the RBs drafted and how they might help your fantasy squad this year. If you missed my QB edition, have a look here. RBs can be tricky and as Bears fans we have seen our fair share of 1st round RB busts. For those voyer, non-Bears fans out there reading this, Ryan Matthews much??? Only 1 RB was drafted in the first round this year and by my estimation that was about right. Based on my personal experience with the aforementioned Ryan Matthews by drafting him WAAAAYYY too early, [...]
