Jerry Angelo and Olin Kreutz Discuss The Failed Deal
Sunday was the second full day of training camp for the Bears in Bourbonnais, but almost of the news came off the field rather than on it. The biggest story of the day was Olin Kreutz’s departure. After a flurry of activity including the failed Kreutz deal, the Greg Olsen trade and ongoing negotiations with RB Matt Forte, not to mention 48 signings since Free Agency officially opened last week, Bears GM Jerry Angelo stepped to the podium to discuss the state of the team. Here’s Jerry on the Kreutz move (or lack thereof): For a little more from Jerry [...]
Bears Players React to Olin Kreutz Departure
Olin Kreutz is history in Chicago. As the most tenured position player and leader on and off the field, it’s not surprising that his former teammates are reaction and venting through social media: Anthony Adams (@spiceadams) Jam Rock will never be the same!!! #cc @ChrisHarrisNFL 183 consecutive starts 2nd to Sweetness!!! The only guy I know who would play with a broken bone or multiple broken bones. @Shareair32 nothing will be the same without him, practice, meetings, lifting, away trips, etc…… Chris Harris (@ChrisHarrisNFL) Sad day n Chicago he was the glue n locker room RT @MrWhiteSox: How do u [...]
Multiple tweets from Bears camp are confirming that the Olin Kreutz era has come to an end in Chicago after 13 seasons with the Bears. Kreutz was the most tenured member of the Bears, dating all the way back to the Dave Wannstedt regime. That distinction now belongs to long snapper Patrick Mannelly. As for Kreutz, he departs the Bears after the two sides failed to reach a compromise on a contract that hit an impasse over $500,000. That’s a fraction of what they’ve doled out for their various reclamation projects, so it leads me to believe that someone within [...]

Bears Training Camp Practice and Free Agent Notes
The Bears opened up the 2011 campaign in Bourbonnais, IL on Saturday with their first practice or any action since the disappointing loss in the NFC Championship game. It was another interesting day since the lockout dam broke. The Bears re-signed special teams ace Corey Graham. They also added Marion Barber and DT Amobi Okoye. That’s the good news on the Free Agent front. The bad news is that it looks like Olin Kreutz will be parting company with the team over a measly $500k. Yes, seriously. On the camp front, I know everyone is interested, so here’s a breakdown [...]
Bears Interested in WR Braylon Edwards
Reports are surfacing that the Bears could be players in the chase from former Jets wide receiver Braylon Edwards. This could make sense for the Bears and given that they’ve made some questionable free agent signings so far, they need to make a big move. Stay tuned.
Bears Add Marion Barber and Amobi Okoye
The Bears continued dumpster diving, adding free agent retreads former Cowboy RB Marion Barber III and former Texans DT Amobi Okoye. Barber was let go in a cash cutting move by the Cowboys. The Bears must believe that there’s something left in the tank for the hard angry runner, inking him to a 2-year, $5 million dollar deal. I think Barber could be the Bears answer to their short yardage problems that have plagued them for years. I thought they drafted Harvey Unga for that in the supplemental draft last year, but maybe this casts doubt on his status. Another [...]
UPDATED: Kreutz Rejects Bears Final Offer over $500k
Clipped from: blogs.suntimes.com (share this clip) The Olin Kreutz era may be coming to an end in Chicago. The Sun Times’ Sean Jensen is reporting that Kreutz rejected the Bears’ 1 year, $4 million “final offer.” The Bears didn’t make an offer to re-sign former Pro Bowl center Olin Kreutz until Thursday then issued an its best offer Saturday, a source told the Sun-Times. The one-year offer: $4 million, according to one Bears player. Asked about that figure, agent Mark Bartelstein said, “I’m not going to talk about the numbers. “But our goal all along was to get a deal [...]
