Bears Could Look to Bolster Pass Rush with Jason Babin

The Bears made a big splash in free agency last season, scoring the prize of the class with Julius Peppers.  Don’t expect a big splash like that this season, but they could make a few ripples with a lot of free agency chatter centered around improving their lines.  On the defensive side, Titans DE Justin Babin has been linked to the Bears.

Babin, an 8-year veteran with stints in Houston, Seattle, Kansas City and Philadelphia before landing with the Titans last season, had a breakout year in 2010.  He notched 12.5 sacks in 16 games last season, far and away the highest total of his career.  Babin is a high motor guy, kind of in the mold of another former Titan in Kyle Vanden Bosch.  He would be a nice fit opposite Peppers to bolster the Bears pass rush and take pressure off the secondary.   Besides Peppers the Bears have Israel Idonije, Corey Wooten and ‘tweener Henry Melton, who could be more in line to slide inside to DT,  in the fold at DE.
