49ers Step Up Efforts to Snag Kreutz from Bears

AUTHOR: | IN: Free Agency | COMMENTS: None Yet

The San Francisco 49ers have put the ball in center Olin Kreutz’s court and put the pressure on the Chicago Bears.  Michael Wright from ESPN Chicago reports that the Niners sent Kreutz a contract proposal: An NFL source said that the Niners sent Kreutz a contract proposal Wednesday night. Although the Bears and the center have talked numbers as well, the source said that Chicago’s offer doesn’t reflect how important he is to the team. For a squad that allowed a team-high 56 sacks, Kreutz was seen as a constant as the Bears try to rebuild the rest of the [...]

Rashied Davis Leaves Bears, Signs with Lions

AUTHOR: | IN: Free Agency | COMMENTS: None Yet

Don’t worry Rashied Davis fans.  You’ll still get to see ‘Shied twice a year, but it will be in the Honolulu Blue of the Detroit Lions rather than the Orange and Navy of your Chicago Bears.  Davis will sign a 1-year deal to jump ship to the division rival Lions.  Here’s what Rashied had to say about leaving the Bears: “I just want to thank the city of Chicago, and the fans,” Davis said Thursday. “I want to thank the team for giving me an opportunity to play in this league, and for all the great memories with the Super [...]

Bears Continue Odd Free Agent Signings by Grabbing TE Spaeth

AUTHOR: | IN: Free Agency | COMMENTS: 2 Comments

Wide Receiver.  Offensive Lineman.  Defensive Tackle.  Linebacker.  Those are the positions that you expected the Chicago Bears to go after when the Free Agent Frenzy started a couple of days ago.  So far, we’ve gotten a punter and a tight end.  Yes, a tight end.   Reports are surfacing that the Bears have agreed to terms with former Steelers tight end Matt Spaeth.  The Spaeth signing comes on the heels of reports that the Bears are shopping tight end Greg Olsen.  This would certainly indicate that #82′s days are numbered in Chicago. Spaeth is more in the mold of a [...]

Bears Pop Free Agency Cherry by Signing Punter Podlesh

AUTHOR: | IN: Free Agency | COMMENTS: None Yet

The Bears have signed a free agent!  That’s the good news.  The not so good news is that it is a punter.  No disrespect to newest Bear Adam Podlesh, but while Bears fans have been itching for the Bears to make a splash, this move barely registers as a ripple.  That’s especially true since Podlesh is replacing fan favorite Brad Maynard.  Here’s a bit on Podlesh, the former Jaguars punter: Podlesh, who will turn 28 next month, averaged 43.8 yards per punt with the Jacksonville Jaguars last season. He had 26 of his punts (45.6 percent) land inside the 20-yard [...]

Babin Lands With Eagles, Bears Miss Again

AUTHOR: | IN: Free Agency | COMMENTS: 3 Comments

So far the headline for Bears fans has been the guys that they haven’t gotten rather than the guys that they have gotten.  Add another name to that list now that former Titans defensive end Jason Babin has landed with the Philadelphia Eagles. From an e-mail from Adam Schefter (not to me of course!): “Philadelphia reached agreement with former Tennessee Pro Bowl defensive end Jason Babin on a five-year contract, according to a league source. Last season in Tennessee, playing for now Eagles defensive line coach Jim Washburn, Babin had 11.5 sacks. He now teams with Trent Cole to give [...]

Bears Trying to Trade Greg Olsen

AUTHOR: | IN: Rumors | COMMENTS: 3 Comments

Greg Olsen’s agent Drew Rosenhaus sent an email to basically the entire NFL, soliciting trade offers for the Bears tight end: Drew Rosenhaus sent a mass email to the league’s general managers and personnel people at 7:56 p.m. Wednesday night announcing the Bears were making Olsen available for trade. The email went to scores of people, including Bears general manager Jerry Angelo and contract negotiator Cliff Stein. “The Bears have granted me permission to seek a trade for Greg Olsen,” Rosenhaus wrote. “Please let me know if interested. Sounds like the Bears will be very reasonable on the compensation in [...]

Lions Beat Bears to LB Durant

AUTHOR: | IN: Free Agency | COMMENTS: None Yet

Clipped from: www.chicagotribune.com (share this clip)   The season hasn’t started yet but the popular up-and-comer preseason pick, the Detroit Lions, scored their first victory over the Chicago Bears by agreeing to terms on a 2-year deal with former Jaguars linebacker Justin Durant.  The Bears had reached out to Durant at the start of free agency to fill their vacant strong side linebacker position. With Durant off the market, Nick Roach’s value certainly goes up for the Bears.  Don’t forget Pisa Tinoisamoa too.  While oft injured, he knows the system and has done well playing alongside Urlacher and Briggs.  Another [...]

Free Agent Wide Receiver Market Shrinking As Bears Sit Idly By

AUTHOR: | IN: Free Agency | COMMENTS: None Yet

The free agent wide receiver market is shrinking, with many of the top targets finding addresses outside of Chicago.  Let’s recap some of the top targets and their probable landing spots: Santonio Holmes – inked a 5 year, nearly $50 million deal with $24 million in guaranteed money with the Jets Sidney Rice – reportedly heading to the Pacific Northwest with Pete Carroll and the Seahawks.  5 years, $41 million with $18.5 in guarantees. Braylon Edwards – seems intent on sticking with the Jets.  Fine by me.  If we want passes dropped, there are plenty of guys on the Bears [...]
