Bears and Bucs Put on Jolly Good Show in London
The Chicago Bears outlasted the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 24-18 in London. To most of us well-versed football fans, it was a pretty routine game. Imagine though that you were a casual or even novice “American” football observer in London and scored a couple of tickets to see this “match”. There were some interesting plays that aren’t necessarily part of the American Football 101 course: On three consecutive plays in the first quarter, Jay Cutler’s overthrown pass intended for Marion Barber was intercepted, followed by a Chris Conte interception of a Josh Freeman near-touchdown pass, followed by a Bucs safety when [...]
This is going to be a really rapid reaction because we’ve got some family stuff this afternoon. I’ll post a more in-depth reaction post tonight, so tune back in later tonight. The Bears looked pretty dominant for about 3 quarters before the Bucs stormed back in the 4th quarter, but their comeback bid came up a bit short as the Bears defense stiffened when it needed. A few quick notes: Matt Forte – just amazing. 25 rushes for 145 yards rushing and another 38 yards through the air on 2 catches. Best game of the season by Roy Williams. Even [...]
Handicapping NFL Week 7: Picks of the Week
This is about the time I start to get into my groove and my 4-1 record last week supports that claim. Of course, there are a couple teams that are still befuddling (see: Chicago Bears), but overall, patterns start to emerge and spreads start to stabilize. I’ll get to picks in a minute, but since our leader, and my buddy, Boomer, sent me a story link this week, I figured I’d tie it into my little piece here. The Bears are in London this week as we all know, but what you may not know is that it is very easy [...]
If there’s a queen of the NFL, it’s Virginia McCaskey, the daughter of NFL founding father George “Papa Bear” Halas. It’s only fitting that the queen of the NFL heads to London as her Bears take on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. She looks like she’s holdin up pretty well. Hope the Bears can put on a good show for her. Long Live the Queen!
Cheerio! Welcome to our Week 7 matchup – the Chicago Bears vs the Tampa Bay Buccaneers coming to you from Wembley Stadium in jolly old England. The Bears take to the pitch with a record of 3-3 coming off their best game of the season, a 39-10 drubbing of the Minnesota Vikings, while the Buccaneers come off an impressive win over division rival Saints to move their record to 4-2. To help prepare for the game a get a little insight behind enemy lines, we touched base with Patrik Nohe of The Pewter Plank for our weekly 5 Questions. 1. [...]
Olin Kreutz Quits Saints Citing No Passion
Clipped from: www.nola.com (share this clip) I wonder if any of the meatballs who called Jay Cutler a “quitter” after the NFC Championship game will pick up their pitchforks and go after former Bears hero Olin Kreutz, who left the New Orleans Saints earlier today. He didn’t retire; he quit. I should probably be writing about the Bears and Bucs in London, but this just keeps gnawing at me. This is such an un-Olin thing to do. He’s not a quitter. Or is he? New Orleans Saints center Olin Kreutz has decided to leave the team, according to agent Mark [...]
Drivin’ Deez Nuts: Sleepy Ol’ England?
There has a been a lot of debate about the Chicago Bears arriving in London (located six hours ahead of Central Standard Time) this morning as opposed to getting there earlier in the week like the Tampa Bay Buccaneers did on Monday. I couldn’t help but immediately react and say, “Who really cares what day they arrive?” But all the reaction on both sides of the argument has made me think about it.
The DeCon’s Fantasy Football Picks – Week 7
My apologies guys for being away last week. Mrs. DeCon was away and I was holding down the fort with my 3 little Bears each running in different directions. Needless to say, this Papa Bear had a tiring weekend. But, week 7 is upon us so check out my picks, which are gonna dig a little deep because 6 teams are on a bye…on the other side…
