Tice was the only decision the Bears could make at this point without losing him. They rewarded him with an extra year on his deal when the Titans wanted to talk to him last year about their OC position. How could they not promote him to their OC if they wouldn't allow him to interview for other OC positions? I had read it was Tice and Cutler(and Shane Day) that went to Martz and told him to start calling different plays before Cutler gets killed because they couldn't protect him with the line they have. One would think that Cutler already has a trust in Tice.

Yes the Bears organization is messed up because they allow how they feel about people(Ted and Lovie) to get involved in making moves at those positions. But it shouldn't be some accountant from Lake Forest deciding who the next GM should be - it should be George McCaskey. And that GM better be able to do one thing really, really well - evaluate talent!

Personally, I don't have anything against Tice, as I believe he has an intense personality that this team drastically lacks. My issue is, as it has been, with the organization. The issues this team had in 2010 are the same issues that existed for 2011 - lack of depth and player development. This rest solely on Angelo (he gone) and Lovie. The Bears have once again recycled crap in an attempt to pass it off as a good move. I'm starting to get the impression things won't change with this organization until something happens as it did with the Hawks - some at Halas Hall dies.

Personally, I'm fine with Tice as OC. My concern is that Lovie is making decisions that can set the franchise back several years to save his own skin. It's already happened.

When Martz was the hire of last resort, I wondered here on this site how we could be told that Lovie wanted to get off the bus running by adding Martz. Lovies decisions are those of desperation because no one wants his coordination offers. They know he's on borrowed time.

That's what makes the GM hire so scary. Why is Lovie dictating anything? And we're going to draft players to fit the Retreat 2 scheme that I loathe? Screw that. Keeping Lovie is a huge risk and we need this draft class to really step up. No more damaged products. The line still needs desperate help. Skill players needed. The defense is so thin and our studs are well into their 30's with no heir apparents on the roster. Depleted is the best word for our situation.

Tell you what SQLpope, fire Lovie and ascend TIce to head coach, then let him choose his staff. Then you'd have interest from good coaches to join this team.

I worry about the GM coming into this position, but the more I think about Tice as OC, the more I like it. If you look at his Vikings experience, he had Randy Moss all but one or two years. In his (Randy's) decline/bad attitude times, he went out and nabbed Marcus Robinson. What he knows is successful requires that go-up-and-get-it guy that we lack. I don't follow college ball, but I have to believe he'll push some strong opinions on the personnel direction now that he's in that role.

I also see the relatively dumbed down offensive approach positively. Run, high pctg passing, couple of shots & strong defense (hopefully). That can win 70% of your games (see Pittsburgh, or a number of Bears teams). Throw in a quarterback that is CAPABLE of putting up points and you have a 50/50 shot at the other 30%. I could definitely seeing us, at least the next few years, playing the longstanding Baltimore role... Green Bay in the top slot with the Bears continual wildcards, with any luck flipping the role like Baltimore pulled off this year.

Ever the optimist.
