The investment in Cutler demands further investment in the offense. The OL needs urgent help, plenty of quality FA wide receivers out there and several talents will be available in the second round. Keeping Jay upright is the key and I'm not convinced that Carimi isn't another Williams.

The window is closing on this team and we need to score to support the aging defense.

Decon, I think you are trying to change the Bears mindset too quickly and actually tell them to establish a game plan. Angelo drafted and bought free agents to try to win now and it almost worked in 2010. Kuechly would be a nice addition and would signal the change in philosophy to draft the best player available instead of just trying to fill holes. But I have seen mocks where he is going as high as 12. I don't think he would be there at 19 and that high 3rd round pick from Carolina may be too much to pay to go up and get him.

If you really want to make a splash in free agency while getting a bona fide talent with your 1st Round pick, go make an offer to Mike Wallace. I don't think Bowe, Vincent Jackson or Colston are going anywhere and they will command the highest price tag. Although the Steelers have been clearing cap space, they could not match a strong offer to Wallace. Then follow it up by getting Nick Toon in the 2nd. You can then draft all defense after that.

I know this sounds crazy especially since I'm more of a defensive guy, but addressing the WR issue first makes Cutler, Forte, Bennett, any TE and the entire OL better immediately and for the future. Drafting Kuechly does not do that.

@DeCon76 I guess the best way to look at is is you always do what you always did you will always get what you have always got. I love that we have always had a strong defense but we have not won a super bowl in 26 years. I'm not saying ignore the defense, but it is time to address the offense. Why bring Cutler in of this is what they are going to do with him. As far as impact goes receiver and running back are two spots that have the quickest impact out of the draft so I think you may be off there. If the Bears can upgrade the offense this year through the draft and free agency there is plenty of time to go and get younger on the defense next year and the year after. Look what cutler did with the less then stellar cast around him last year. Imagine what he could do with a better class of players.

I disagree full heartedly. The bears shouldn't be thinking mlb in the first round. last year, the experts said that the bears defense would suck because they were too old, had it not been for the defense last year, we would have given up about 60 points per game in the final 7 games. True, they do need a mlb to back up urlacher and maybe take over for him a few years from now, but I wouldnt waste such a high first round pick on another defensive player... That's what the bears have been doing for years with their high draft picks and while we have a great defense (aged as they might be), our offense is still very mediocre. What the bears need our receivers. This draft class is pretty deep so with the 19 overall pick, the bears should be able a receiver that can make a difference.... I say get michael Floyd, nick toon, Tommy streeter, or someone like that... Jay cutler is only as good add his weapons... Phil emery has already said he isn't going to spend a lot in free agency (the mccaskey way) so unless u can get vincent jackson or dwayne bowe, u really do not have a choice but to get a top flight . I don't, think u even need an OL. tice is running the show now and has shown when he has his, linemen healthy, they can, play with minimal errors, so long as the gam plan is not going to set the QB up for failure. So if u take an OL, I wouldn't do it til the third round... But we must remember that carimi is expected to return and they finally cut omiyale. So they are headed in the right direction as in terms of filling the, roster with quality... The final piece needed is a, quality WR.

Beardownone...while I agree an upgrade at WR and OL would help, I just don't see the immediate impact AND I don't know if I trus this coaching staff to develop either position, especially WR. I think Tice will do a good job with the OL, but we have a decent amount of youth there already, which is why I think a vet or 2 on the OL is better for the Bears this season and Kuechly fits the bill to begin stockpiling your defensive talent which can be mentored by 4 Pro Bowlers from last season (Lach, Briggs, Pepp and Peanut). They are the best coaches you can have anyway...if Kuechly follows their examples and keeps on loving football, i think the sky's the limit for the kid.

When you get done with with that will there be anything else to build with. You always overpay in free agency. If I were thinking man I might trade down for additional selections.
