@I don’t think the Bears don’t want to pay him. I think it
comes down to perceived
value. Neither side wants to budge. If the Bears franchise him again next year we are talking about close to 18 million on guaranteed money. So you have to ask what is Forte asking for? If its more then the 18 or so million he will get with the franchise tag, I think he may be over valuing himself.

Pay for the loyalty, show the team that you lay down the money for that intangible thing called respect. Pay the man, it’s only money, …… and cap space, but mostly just money.

@TomSchwarz I agree that their are other teams that would be willing to sign him. But that is not an option. That’s why I feel he needs them more at this point.

Can the bears make it to the playoffs without Forte? Yes. Can they win a super bowl without him? Not impossible, but certainly more improbable.

I don’t think either one needs the other. Matt is good enough to sign elsewhere for the money he wants and the Bears have enough personnel to make up for his loss.

@Levi20 I should be clear. I don’t think the Bears don’t need Forte I just think he needs them more right now. He is locked to them like it or not for the next two years at that point his age becomes a big concern to any team. I do think they can make a playoff run with out him though

I would guess that about half the teams in the NFL would seriously consider signing Matt Forte to a long term contract if he were to become a free agent. That being said, Forte doesnt NEED the Bears at all. On the other hand, its hard to imagine the Bears making a strong run deep into the playoffs without him on their roster, at least for me. I’m a pretty big fan of Kahlil Bell, and i believe he and Michael Bush would make a pretty good running back duo, but it just seems a lot more realistic for the bears to make a super bowl run with Matt Forte on the roster. The Bears need Matt Forte!!!
