Mike Florio from ProFootball Talk is reporting that New Orleans Saints Offensive Coordinator Pete Carmichael is interviewing for the Chicago Bears’ head coaching position.   Sean Jensen reports that the meeting will take place on Thursday.

Many believe that Saints head coach Sean Payton is the brains behind the Saints’ offense, but Carmichael did a fine job running the Saints in his head coach’s absence.   Carmichael ran the Saints’ 2nd ranked Saints offense this season while Sean Payton sat out in the wake of the Bountygate scandal that rocked the Saints.

The 41-year old Carmichael has been with the Saints since 2006, where he’s served as quarterbacks coach, passing game coordinator and offensive coordinator.  He’s been in the NFL since 2000 where  spent time with the Chargers, Redskins and Browns.

Carmichael makes sense for the Bears with his offensive acumen.  The Saints have had a top ranked offense over the last several yeas with Drew Brees running the show.  It’d be interesting to see what Carmichael could do with Jay Cutler.
