Countdown to Kickoff... 81 Days Until Chicago Bears Season Opener

I decided to do a countdown to the Chicago Bears season opener on September 8th versus the Cincinnati Bengals.  Thanks to one of my followers on Twitter @Beneiserle, I decided to combine the countdown with a roster preview of sorts.

We’re Terrence Toliver days away from kickoff.  Who is Terrence Toliver?  Good question.  I had to do a little research myself to learn about the wide receiving prospect.  Toliver was signed by the Houston Texans as an undrafted free agent following the 2011 draft following a college career at LSU.  In 2010 he led the Tigers in catches  and was named offensive MVP of the 2011 Cotton Bowl.  In his 53 game career with he had 126 catches for over 1800 yards.

He was cut by the Texans in September of 2011 but made his profession debut with the Omaha Nighthawks, sandwiched around stints with the Detroit Lions.  The Lions cut him before the start of the 2012 season.  The Bears scooped him up in January and his chances to make the team are really slim.  He would need a helluva camp just to try to get consideration for the practice squad.

Since we’re 81 days away from kickoff, it’s an opportune time to check in with a recent #81 on the Bears, wide receiver Sam “Scarface” Hurd, who was brought in following the lockout to provide some depth at wide receiver and offer some special teams support.  Little did Jerry Angelo know that Hurd was trying to set himself up to be a major drug dealer on his off days.  The Bears cut Hurd in December of 2011.

Hurd recently pleaded guilty to drug charges and could face 10 years in jail.  Nice pickup Jerry!

We’re 81 days away from kickoff.  Are you ready???
