We decided to do a countdown to the Chicago Bears season opener on September 8th versus the Cincinnati Bengals.  Thanks to one of our Twitter followers, we decided to combine the countdown with a roster preview of sorts.

We’re 37 days away from the start of the season.  That’s Anthony Walters days for those playing along with our roster preview.  Walters will have a harder time than ever to break through a talented safety class in 2013.

Walters came to the Bears as an undrafted free agent out of Delaware in 2011.  He spent e first five weeks of that season on the practice squad before he broke through due to injuries.  A few weeks later, he ended up on the IR himself.  Walters made his first start in Week 17 of the 2012 season.  He’ll hope to build on that to crack the 2013 roster.

It’s a talented safety group that he’ll be up against for a roster spot.  Besides starters Major Wright and Chris Conte, the Bears have a veteran in Zbikowski and a second year Emery draft pick vying for one of the backup safety spots.  Walters has shown good instincts and made a few plays, but I don’t know if it’s enough to make the roster.

Other notable 37’s in Bears history including Jason McKie, Tony Parrish and stripper-turned-safety Mo Douglass.

We’re 37 days from kickoff.  Are you ready???
