Building Blocks

The Bears offensive line needs to improve.  Yes, they haven’t been giving up the boatload of sacks and haven’t been committing nearly as many pre-snap penalties that are drive killers.  That said, they’ve been allowing far too many hurries and pressures.  Jordan Mills and Jermon Bushrod will have their hands full with Terrell Suggs and Elvis Dumervil.  Roberto Garza vs Haloti Ngata also gives me a bad feeling.  Whether it’s in pass protection or in run blocking, the Bears need to block better.  If the Bears can control the line of scrimmage, they can pull off the win.

Send in McCown (to the tune of Send in the Clowns)

If Joe Flacco is the poster child for not overpaying quarterbacks, Josh McCown is the poster child for why not to overpay them.  McCown’s recent success running Marc Trestman’s offense has brought all of the Jay Cutler haters out of the woodwork and raised the question of whether the Bears should pay big bucks to Cutler or if any old quarterback will do to run the offense.

McCown led the Bears on the final drive against the Lions and continued strong play that he exhibited in the second half of the Redskins game and in the Bears’ win over the Packers.  He’s thrown 4 TD’s to ZERO turnovers for a QB rating of 103.2.  McCown needs to keep up his mistake-free football if the Bears want to pull off a win against the Ravens aggressive defense.
