Bears sign Jay Cutler, Tim Jennings, & Matt Slauson

The Bears announced today that they have signed Jay Cutler to a 7-year deal. The financials haven’t been reported yet, but I will update as soon as details are released. Bears GM Phil Emery called Cutler “a quarterback we can win with,” and “a demonstrated winner with the Chicago Bears”.

UPDATE: It’s not official, but I’m hearing that Cutler’s deal averages out at $18M per year.

UPDATE: 7 years, $126M with $54M guaranteed.

With just one playoff appearance in 5 years as a Bear I’m not sure how I feel about those statements, but overall I’m happy the Bears brought back Cutler. There just weren’t enough viable options at QB on the free agent market and with an offense on the cusp of greatness it didn’t make sense to set it back with a rookie QB.

The Bears also signed CB Tim Jennings and G Matt Slauson to 4-yr deals. Great start to 2014 for the Bears!
