The Bears added some depth yesterday by re-signing back-up TE Dante Rosario to a 1-yr deal. The Bears acquired Rosario from the Cowboys for their 2014 7th round pick at the end of the preseason last year. Rosario was a valuable run-blocking tight end who played 15 games for the Bears last year and will probably fill a similar role in 2014. He wasn’t much of a factor in the passing game with only 1 catch for 13 yards.

I don’t think the Bears are done at TE. Last year they were looking for a an h-back / move TE to compliment Bennett and I expect them to either draft one late, bring in a UFA or possibly sign one in free agency. The Bears were forced to use tackle Eben Britton at TE at times last year when Martellus Bennett was injured. The Bears will have enough depth at the position in 2104 to avoid that happening again. They also have TE Fendi Onobun under contract after he spent last year on the practice squad. Onobon struggled with drops in the 2013 preseason, but got high praise from the coaching staff for his work on the practice squad and could be ready to make a run for that 3rd TE spot in 2014.
