Watch Soldier Field Transformation for Blackhawks Stadium Series Game

facebooktwitterreddit

The last meaningful game at Soldier Field was the Bears’ season ending loss to the Green Bay Packers that sent the Bears packing for the season and the Packers into the playoffs.   The next Chicago team to be roaming the “sidelines” in Soldier Field will be a champion, the world champion Chicago Blackhawks.  The Blackhawks will take on the Pittsburgh Penguins on Saturday night at Soldier Field in the NHL’s Stadium Series.

This won’t be the first time that Soldier Field has hosted a hockey game.  Last February, the Hockey City Classic Winter Festival was played at Soldier Field where the Minnesota Golden Gophers played the Wisconsin Badgers and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish played the Miami Redhawks.

This won’t be the first time outside for the Blackhawks, who played the Detroit Redwings in Wrigley Field in the Winter Classic back in 2009.  The Pens are old vets at playing outside, with two Winter Classic appearances in 2008 and 2011.

Check out this time lapse  video of Soldier Field getting transformed into a hockey rink.  It’s like re-sodding, only with ice.

It’s a Bear weather forecast for Saturday night with temperatures in the teens and a chance for snow.  Let’s see if the Blackhawks can bring a winner back to Soldier Field!
