At 6-0, 190 pounds, Derricus Purdy definitely has the physical dimensions Phil Emery looks for in a cornerback.  Coming out of Texas Southern, however, raises concerns about whether or not he can hang with the big dogs.  Adding credibility to those concerns is the fact that he wen undrafted last year and failed to catch on anywhere.  I’m not saying there’s no shot of Purdy making the final roster, but after hearing how deep the cornerback position has looked thus far in camp it seems unlikely.  That having been said, he is a part of that position group and a reason it has looked so deep, so if he can figure out the mental part of the game and live up to his physical potential, Purdy could be a pleasant surprise.

Be on the lookout for our Countdown to Kickoff series as we continue to work our way to the season opener on September 7th. We’re 36 days from kickoff.  Are you ready???
