After another slow start for the Bears offense, things got rolling in the second half as they scored 21 straight points. The Bears used a good run-pass mix to set up their first score of the game. Let’s take a look at the film to see Alshon Jeffrey’s 2 yard touchdown catch.

Alshon Jeffrey 2 yard TD catch

Game situation: 3rd down and Goal at the Bucs 2 yard line (3rd Quarter 10:39 left)

Personnel: 11 (1 RB, 1 TE, 3 WRs)

Defense: Cover 2

Offensive scheme: Curl-Flat

Out of the shotgun and in a 2×2 formation, the Bears try to stretch the Bucs Cover 2 defense horizontally to find open holes in the zone. Cutler first looks to the weak side where Marshall runs a quick Hitch route, but does not decide to pull the trigger. Cutler then progresses to the strong side where Bennett and Jeffrey combine to run a Curl-Flat combination. Bennett’s Flat route widens the CB (Banks), while Jeffrey finds the hole that emerges between the Banks and the OLB (Lansanah). Lansanah becomes occupied with Forte sneaking out of the backfield and that is all the room Cutler needs to find Jeffrey for the touchdown.
