It is now confirmed that Brandon Marshall suffered 2 broken ribs and a collapsed lung during yesterday’s game. He has been successfully treated for the injuries and remains in the hospital. According to a report by Adam Schefter, Marshall has been ruled out for the season

The injury occurred late in the second quarter on a 3rd and long conversion. He took a hard knee to his back as he was getting tackled.  Although inadvertent, it will prove to be costly.

Marshall was signed to a 4-year extension worth just under $40 million back in May. It is still unknown if Marshall will play out the rest of that contract as a Bear, or if he will be dealt somewhere to help rebuild in other areas of the team. This team is in desperate need of good young talent on defense. Lance Briggs and Charles Tillman may have seen their last days as Bears. It may be in the team’s best interest to see what they could get for Marshall, in terms of draft picks or young defensive talent.

This may not be one of the favored offseason moves, but its a must. Yes, Marshall has had a pretty good career as a Bear and has produced at a high level. If there is a chance for a move to be made, if i am Phil Emery i make it happen.

The injury  comes as another punch to the gut, for the Bears. After another loss in a disappointing season, so far, the Bears will now be without one of the top receivers in the league. Now more than ever, Alshon Jeffery will be called upon to carry the receiving load the rest of the way. Also look for Marquees Wilson and Martellus Bennett to become bigger parts of the offense.

Bennett finished the game with a new Bears record in tight end receptions, for a season, and 12 catches.
