Latest Chicago Bears News – May 20, 2015

HAPPY HUMP DAY, BEARS FANS!!!  I’ve decided to try to resurrect an old favorite of mine, Bear Dawn.  It’s the latest Chicago Bears news from around the interwebs.  Here’s what you need to know for May 20, 2015:

The big NFL news of the day on Tuesday was the new extra point rules.  So Robbie Gould’s job got a little tougher.

We also got to meet another new BGO staff writer.  Welcome Andrew!

The Bears are not only adding new video boards, but a cocktail bar called the Bears Den for season ticket holders.  Better video boards to try to see the action when you’re blind drunk.  I get it.

Our friends at Da Bears Beat look at the culture change in Chicago:

"Pace is assembling his ideal staff. His actions are those of a man who has a plan. He has been decisive and by all appearances efficient. He is surrounding himself with quality, like-minded football men. Changes have gone as far as the trainers and strength/conditioning coach. Only two coaches remain from last season, Mike Groh and Clint Hurtt. The players will be coached differently, conditioned differently, and will more than likely even eat differently. These are all changes that can impact the win total but often go overlooked."

ESPN’s Jeff Dickerson continues his roster breakdown with a look at the tight ends.  Yes, all eight of them!  But it’s really about one guy:

"Everything at tight end hinges on Martellus Bennett, who missed the first five weeks of the voluntary offseason program because of a contract dispute. Bennett wants more money after leading all NFL tight ends in receptions (90) last season, but Chicago is unlikely to honor Bennett’s request. With two years left on his existing contract, Bennett’s best course of action is probably to play for the Bears in 2015 and try again next offseason; unless the Bears can trade the Pro Bowl tight end sometime before training camp."

Defensive coordinator Vic Fangio knows he’s got his work cut out for him:

"“So we’re going to have to make our own building blocks. But I think any time you come to a new place, the first job is to make the players you already have better. That’s our job, No. 1, before you talk about free agency and the draft and whatnot. So we need to make the guys that we have here better.”"

NFL NEWS…

New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft confirmed the Patriots will not appeal their punishment from the Deflategate scandal.

Meanwhile, the NFLPA is coming hard at the NFL in the Adrian Peterson case.

It’s never too early to start thinking about who will host the 2019 and 2020 Super Bowls.  Spoiler alert – the NFL will not be pressing their luck with a trip to Chicago in February any time soon.

TWEET OF THE DAY…

Yesterday was an anniversary of sorts:

Time flies, doesn’t it?
