The Chicago Bears had one of the best overall drafts in recent history and signed some interesting undrafted free agents as well. Over the next week Bear Goggles On will be breaking down the Bears draft picks and the undrafted free agents with a legitimate shot to make the 2015 roster. With a new management team taking over the leadership of the Bears and the Bears transitioning to new schemes on both sides of the ball, there will be significant roster turnover. Rumors are already circulating about some veteran players and recent draft picks that may not be on the roster in 2015. With all of the turnover in the front office and coaching staff, there is more of an opportunity than usual for rookies to make the team.

QB Pat Devlin, Delaware

* Devlin entered the draft in 2011, but has bounced around practice squads since and has yet to take an NFL snap so I’m including him in our rookie profiles even though technically he’s not a rookie.

Attributes:

  • Height | Weight: 6’3 | 225
  • 40-time | 10-yard split: 4.87 | 1.67
  • Vertical | Broad jump: 33″ | 9’8″

Overview:

Former top recruit for Penn St who ended up transferring to Delaware and putting up impressive stats (66% comp, 38 TD, 12 INT). Devlin has prototype NFL size and enough athleticism to play in the league, but for some reason he hasn’t been able to crack a roster despite stints on the Dolphins and QB-challenged Vikings.

Devlin’s stock soared after a solid Senior Bowl and combine in 2011 but despite being projected in the 3rd-4th round range, fell out of draft completely. Devlin was considered a steal by most draftniks when the Dolphins signed him as a priority undrafted free agent, but despite a brief stint on the active roster he never got any snaps. He was signed by the Vikings during the 2014 season but again never saw the field.

The Bears signed Devlin after his tryout at their recent mini-camp and he will compete with David Fales and Shane Carden for the 3rd QB job.
