The Chicago Bears have been mildly busy this offseason. One of their latest moves was the re-signing of Deonte Thompson.

The Chicago Bears made big news with the signing of quarterback Mark Sanchez. However, it was not the only move the team made. They re-signed receiver/kick returner, Deonte Thompson on Thursday..

Thompson undrafted out of Florida in 2012, where he was a BCS Champion, has had stints with the Baltimore Ravens and Buffalo Bills.

If nothing else, Chicago will be maintaining speed. The former Gator ran a 4.31 at the combine.

While never making a huge impact on the field, Thompson showed massive potential late in the 2016 season against Green Bay catching eight passes with a career-high of 110 receiving yards. His career statistics will not jump out to any Chicago sports fan. With a career 39 receptions, 477 receiving yards, and two touchdown grabs. As a kick returner, he averages 25.4 yards per return.

The Bears could elect to use him in more pass catching situations, now that their former number one receiver Alshon Jefferey is now in Philadelphia.

Even at age 28, Thompson is older than all the receivers on the roster besides Eddie Royal.

There is no guarantee that the former track star will make the roster. The team could elect to fill their kick return issues in the draft or with recently signed Benny Cunningham.

As for who he will be throwing it to, the group lacks any big names. The team finished 3-13 last season, fourth in the NFC North. If that is to change, the team must make more moves than these lackluster signings.

With the new depth at the quarterback position for the Bears, their best bet may be to trade out of the third pick to a QB needy team.
