National media is downplaying the Chicago Bears win, and it’s time to stop

The Chicago Bears defeated the Los Angeles Rams 15-6 on Sunday night football. The only reason the Bears won is because the Rams were cold. It was a throw away game. The Bears got lucky.

It’s time for the national media to shut it. These were all excuses used by “analysts” after the game on television. In reality, the truth is that the 11-2 Rams came into Soldier Field in December and were completely DOMINATED. Ironically, analysts before the game picked the Rams and said the weather wouldn’t effect them. Funny how the excuse it was too cold is being thrown around. The Bears defense played at a historic level Sunday night. The Rams got beat. They got beat bad, but that’s okay. Every team loses, but there is no need to downplay the fact that the Chicago Bears are legit, and they completely choked the life out of the best team in the NFL.

The Bears came into Sunday night looking to make a statement. All season they have been downplayed because they “don’t beat good teams” and once they do, it’s like it doesn’t count. Enough. Face it, the Bears are good, as much as media outlets don’t want to admit it. On national television the Bears showed that they can beat anyone with their defensive play. Even though quarterback Mitchell Trubisky played a terrible game, Rams quarterback Jared Goff played worse. Now imagine how good this team could be if Trubisky has a great game?

The Bears had a simple gameplan offensively. Run the ball and double defensive lineman Aaron Donald. It was plenty enough to win, as Donald was obsolete the entire game and Jordan Howard rushed for 100 yards for the first time this season. Defensively, they held MVP candidate Todd Gurley to 28 yards on 11 carries. They we’re going to make Jared Goff beat them, and in an attempt, he threw four interceptions.

This Bears performance raises some questions though. Can the defense carry this team all the way? Will an inconsistent offense be the downfall of this team? It’s unlikely that the offense will bring this team down. Matt Nagy is too good of a coach to let that happen. While excuses aren’t being made for Trubisky’s performance, he did miss two weeks with an injury to his throwing shoulder and have to come back against arguably the best team in the NFL. He will improve and get back on track by the end of the season, as those games are far easier than the Rams.

However, defensively this team can go far. They play on another level at Soldier Field, but they also come prepared to play on the road. As of now, road playoff games are going to go through New Orleans or LA. Those will be tough, but Chicago showed they have the blueprint to stop these offensive juggernauts.

It’s time for the Chicago Bears to get some respect, and they deserve it. No more talk about how the Vikings own this division with their defense, which is worse than Chicago’s, or how they will still win the division. They paid a quarterback $84 million dollars to not beat teams over .500. Green Bay and Detroit seem to be cashed out already and preparing for 2019. “But the Rams were cold that’s the only reason they lost”. They’re grown men getting paid millions of dollars to play football, put a thermal shirt on and go out there. It needs to be said, the Bears are good again, and the NFL is much better when the Bears are winning.
