The Bears have their entire 2013 draft class under contract, as they’ve reached agreement to a contract with first round selection Kyle Long. Long was the last of the class to agree to terms as rest of the rookie class had new paper before rookie minicamp last week.

Terms of the four year deal, with a team option have not been disclosed, but with the new slotting you can bet that it’s somewhere in the ballpark of the 4 year $8 million that Shea McClellin got last season as the 19th pick. (more…)

You know Briggs and Peppers and Tillman. Those players are considered the core of the Chicago Bears defense. Sure, you might still remember Urlacher, but the sooner you start forgetting the better. Anyway, they have been around for a few years and have performed at a Pro Bowl level consistently. They’re guys that are well known outside of the Bears and have a reputation around the leauge. But a player that you may not have expected to give you a monster season and move into the spotlight would be Tim Jennings, who was ranked #69 in NFL.com’s Top 100 of 2013.

“Very impressed with Jay,” Cavanaugh said. “Very impressed. He’s borderline football brilliant. I think he gets it. I think he knows the game. I think he knows offensive schemes. I think he knows defenses.”

I think most of us would consider Jay borderline something, I just don’t know anyone would say borderline football brilliant. I guess three seasons of Mark Sanchez and a season with Tim Tebow has dulled Cavanaugh’s football sensibilities. (more…)

Gabe Carimi’s days with the Chicago Bears appear to be numbered. Carimi, who’s already facing an uphill battle just to make the final 53-man roster, decided that it was OK to skip the first day of OTA’s and work out on his own.

Former Chicago Bears first-round draft pick Gabe Carimi was a no-show at Halas Hall on Monday when the team took the field for the first organized team activity of the offseason, according to a source familiar with the situation…

According to multiple sources, Carimi hasn’t been with the team since he participated in the club’s voluntary three-day minicamp held from April 16-18. Following the conclusion of the minicamp, Carimi informed the Bears he planned to skip the second phase of the Bears’ offseason program that included individual on-field work and positional meetings in favor of returning to Arizona to continue his offseason training.

Carimi felt working out in Arizona gave him the best opportunity to return to the field healthy and avoid the knee problems that have plagued him the last two years, a source said.

Call it Jerry Angelo’s final revenge because yet another first round draft pick offensive lineman appears destined for the scrap heap. (more…)
