Week 2 of preseason brings the Redskins to town with them they bring one of the most expensive number two draft picks in recent memory. RGIII comes in with lofty expectations and what the Redskins hope for to be a high ceiling.

After last week the beloved have nowhere to go but up we hope. The offensive line was as bad as advertised, the defensive line let Peyton Manning eat lunch before he threw and the offensive line was bad.

This week the keys will not differ too much from last week however I feel that it needs to be simplified a bit. So here they are. (more…)

Normally I do not do a keys to victory in preseason the games mean nothing so there is very little planning but, with this being my first go round with the Bear Goggles On team I thought why not. This game marks the return of Peyton Manning and his first in a Broncos uniform. Denver a year ago was a team that had a strong defense and a tight end who played quarterback.

This year expectations are high in the Mile High city, which leads me to keys of the game. (more…)

The question I asked then and continue to do now is why?

At the time my view point was their were many teams bunched together and a loss would mean a higher draft pick. I did not want the Bears to tank the game, just not have everyone out there going full boar. Everyone meaning the starters.

With the arrival of Brandon Marshall the butterfly effect will be great for certain Bears. A big time player of Marshall’s caliber can make things a lot easier for the players around him. So who will be the one that benefits the most? Below is a list of players that I think will.

Jay Cutler

Since Jay got to Chicago he has not had the explosive wide out that changes games. Despite this Cutty has gotten better each year with the beloved. Marshall will help continue that trend on a couple different fronts. First of all he will give Jay that big wide out that every quarterback covets. Secondly he will make the wideouts around him better by not having a bunch of two’s and three’s playing as one’s and two’s. Even if this tandem does not produce huge numbers together Cutler’s will improve just with him being here. (more…)

With the start of training camp here and with all that has been made of the additions by the beloved now is as good a time as any to assess who will have the biggest affect.

Not to leave anyone out I will pick an existing player as well as a new addition and a sleeper on both sides of the ball. You can tell me how wrong I am in the comment section below.

OFFENSE

June 12, 2012; Lake Forest, IL, USA; Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler (6) passes during Bears-Minicamp at Halas Hall. Mandatory Credit: David Banks-US PRESSWIRE

Existing player: Jay Cutler

As for existing players there is no doubt in my mind if he stays healthy Cutty will have the biggest affect the 2012-13 season. At the time of his injury last year he was coming together like we had been waiting for. I think that this year will be his breakout season with the help of the additions of Brandon Marshall and Alshon Jeffery. Also if the Hester package is using him like the 85 team used Dennis Gentry the numbers have the potential to be big. I think 4,000 yards and 30 Touchdowns. (more…)

Wednesday NFL network finished its top 100 players of 2012. Jay Cutler was nowhere to be found on that list. Now I may be sipping the orange and blue kool-aid a bit on this, but I think they got that wrong.

I will not sit here and debate whether Cutty should have been put ahead of guys like John Kuhn (92) or a Willis McGahee (98) rather I will compare apples to apples.
Below is a list of Quarterbacks I would put Cutler ahead of that made the list.

Dec 11, 2011; Denver, CO, USA; Denver Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow (15) fumbles following a sack by Chicago Bears defensive end Israel Idonije (71) during the fourth quarter of the game against the Chicago Bears at Sports Authority Field. Mandatory Credit: Ron Chenoy-US PRESSWIRE

Tim Tebow (95)

Yes, Tebow was 7-4 as a starter and his team went to the playoffs. I would be willing to bet that 99 percent of NFL executives would take Cutler over him without any hesitation. Tebow’s numbers are not good (apart from win-loss) 46.5 completion percentage 1729 yards good for 123.5 yards per game. I would take sexy Rexy before I took Tebow.

Sep 19, 2010; Arlington, TX, USA; Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo (9) gets the ball knocked down by Chicago Bears defensive end Julius Peppers (90) in the fourth quarter at Cowboys Stadium. The Bears beat the Bears 27-20. Mandatory Credit: Matthew Emmons-US PRESSWIRE

Tony Romo (91)

Romo puts up decent numbers yes, but I don’t think he is a good leader and is not what you would call a pressure player. In his career Romo has put together 13 4th quarter comeback victories with 14 game winning drives. Compared to Cutlers 12 4th quarter comebacks and 16 game winning drives. But when playoff time rolls around or a chance for the playoffs Romo tends to disappear.

Nov 28, 2010; Chicago, IL, USA; Chicago Bears defensive end Julius Peppers (90) tackles Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick (7) during the second half at Soldier Field. The Chicago Bears defeat the Philadelphia Eagles 31-26. Mandatory Credit: Mike DiNovo-US PRESSWIRE

Michael Vick (70)

First off let me just say this is way too high of a rating for Vick to begin with. I may be a bit biased since I hate the guy, but he lead the “dream team” to an 8-8 record and had ok numbers along the way. Throwing for 3303 yards with 18 touchdowns and 14 interceptions are not top 70 numbers. By contrast if he would have stayed healthy Cutler would have thrown for 3700 yards with 21 touchdowns and 11 INT’s (granted those are projections based on his year up until the injury)

There are others that I have not mentioned (Cam Newton and Joe Flacco) but the above mentioned are may main gripes. The issue is that Jay seems to rub people the wrong way so he will never be accepted unless he has an MVP type season. The fact of the matter is I would take Cutler ahead of any of the Quarterbacks I mentioned including Flacco and Newton everyday of the week and twice on Sunday.

Maybe I am a homer but that is just my two cents. Let me know what you think and as always..

BEAR DOWN

Which got me thinking who needs who more? Does Forte mean more to the Bears or is it the other way around?

Now there is little debate that Forte is a good back. What he brings to the table few others do. In his four years he has finished in the top ten total yards from scrimmage three times. He has 6,218 total yards good for 103.7 yards per game with 29 TD’s to boot. Three times he has rushed for over a thousand yards. Arguably he is the best receiving back in the league.

Now with all that being said, if you look at the last five Super Bowl winning running backs only one has rushed for a thousand yards or more. That was the Giants Brandon Jacobs back in 2007 when he ran for 1,009 yards and had 174 yards receiving. the Steelers Willie Parker – 791 and 13, the Saints Pierre Thomas – 793 and 302, the Packers Brandon Jackson – 703 and 342 and the Giants Ahmed Bradshaw – 659 and 267. Not eye popping numbers. (more…)
