Meatball fans must already be muttering “See, da Bears miss Urlacher’s leadership” under their breath as news of tight end Evan Rodriguez’s arrest made headlines on Thursday morning.  Rodriguez was arrested in Miami Beach for “resisting an officer without violence and disorderly intoxication” after a car he was riding in was involved in a traffic accident.   (more…)

Dec. 23, 2012; Glendale, AZ, USA: Chicago Bears offensive tackle J’Marcus Webb

I was a little worried when MoFo Fridge Monday passed on Twitter and there were no tweets from J’Webb.  It turns out my worries were justified as Chicago Bears offensive tackle J’Marcus Webb was sitting in a southern Illinois jail cell on pot charges.  You might say he was holding.  The veteran tackle is used to penalties, but not one so serious.

The 24 year old veteran tackle was arrested following a routine traffic stop on Sunday in Pulaski County, near Carbondale.  Webb was reportedly speeding on I-57 and was pulled over when the arresting officer found less than 2.5 grams of marijuana.  Initially, Webb was charged with “possession of cannabis, possession of drug paraphernalia and speeding.”  Webb tweeted an apology earlier in the day: “Headed to Texas to train. I apologize.”  I suppose the pot was medicinal and needed for training.   (more…)

One of the newest Chicago Bears is off to a great start with his new team as the NFL has suspended defensive tackle Nate Collins for one game and docked an additional game check for violating the league’s substance abuse policy.  The former Jaguar was busted for pot in Virginia back in February.

The Jaguars had tendered Collins with an exclusive rights tender, but pulled it back after the arrest, which put the 24-year old on the market for the Bears. Collins appeared in 12 games for Jacksonville last year, making 10 tackles.Collins will be competing with the likes of John McCargo, DeMario Pressley, Jordan Miller and Ronnie Cameron for the 4th DT spot.

At about 5:40 a.m. on July 4, Hester, Bennett and two others were inside a green Kia Soul when the shooting took place. The driver of the vehicle drove Bennett to Broward Health North hospital, where Hester got out of the car and fled on foot.

Police believe Hester is still in South Florida, where he lives.

Authorities are still trying to determine the motive for the shooting.

Law enforcement has been in contact with Devin Hester.

This is the last thing that Devin needs while getting ready for a crucial training camp.

George Thomas Kurney, 50, of N.C. Highway 581 in Bailey, is the father of Julius Peppers, who starred on the basketball and football teams at the University of North Carolina before going pro with the Carolina Panthers.

He was arrested Wedesday along with Donald Earl Bullock, 46, of Sims School Road in Sims, on charges of possession of cocaine.

The Nash County Sheriff’s Office, Tarboro and Wilson police departments and the State Bureau of Investigation collaborated on the investigation. Both men were being held Thursday in the Wilson County Jail.

The former deputy lost his job, so that’s two guys in that family that are currently out of work.

Did Pep’s dad go all Jack Bauer circa 24 Season 3 when he got hooked on drugs while being undercover or did he go the dirty cop route?   Hope all works out for the Peppers family.

Wolfe, who has been primarily a special-teams player for the Bears for the last four years, allegedly became aggressive while disputing the purchase of three bottles of champagne at Cameo Nightclub in Miami Beach. He was removed forcefully from the club, causing business to stop and patrons to leave, according to the report released by Miami Beach Police.

Once outside, Wolfe was initially restrained before being released to settle his bill. Then Wolfe allegedly lunged at an off-duty police officer, prompting a scuffle that resulted in Wolfe and two off-duty officers sustaining abrasions before Wolfe was handcuffed, according to the report.

Wolfe, who officers said smelled of alcohol, had bloodshot eyes and slurred speech, threatened to sue the officers and at one point said: “Let’s compare bank accounts.”

Did he really pull the bank account line on the coppers?  Seriously?  Come on kid!  Next time he should leave the champagne orders to former teammate Julius Peppers.

According to detective Juan Sanchez, Wolfe’s trouble started when he went deadbeat on his bill at a Miami club:

‘‘He became aggressive while being ejected by bouncers, and two off-duty officers were summoned,’’ Sanchez said. ‘‘They gave him the opportunity to settle his bill, and he refused. He attacked one of the officers. Both officers suffered minor injuries.’’
