2012 #82- T.Y. Hilton WR Indianapolis Colts- What a rookie season by Hilton and probably one of the best free agent pickups in your league. Hilton after 8 weeks of average performance blew up the 2nd half of the season along with Andre Luck and the entire Colts organization. Hilton gets the privilege of having Reggie Wayne on the other side usually taking the #1 cornerback. Hilton scored 7 touchdowns and all of them were after Week #9!

Retro #82 2002-Todd Heap TE Baltimore Ravens- Heap never was in the upper echelon of Tight Ends but if you waited in your draft to pick one up he was always dependable to give you points weekly.

Look ahead #82

ESPN-Jeremy Maclin WR Philadelphia Eagles- Like we said yesterday Maclin is a huge question mark with the Chip Kelly offense. What do you think about the Philly offense? Do you like the Philly offense or only take McCoy?

CBS Sports- Mark Ingram RB New Orleans Saints- The former Heisman award winner could become a much bigger factor in 2013 with the return of Sean Payton as Head Coach. Ingram has the potential to become a TD machine or he could just be a bust. This really is the season to determine if Ingram is a fantasy star or bust.

2012 #83- Justin Tucker PK Baltimore Ravens- Tucker was a better option at the beginning of the season than later when the offense started scoring touchdowns. Tucker like most kickers are a coin flip in the later rounds of fantasy drafts but Joe Flacco and Ray Rice should be able to move chains and put points on the board so Tucker should be at least an option when it’s time to take your kicker.

Retro #83 2002- Jay Feely PK Atlanta Falcons- Yep #83 is all kickers. Feely was still kicking away in 2012, but the one thing I remember in 2002 was him missing kicks against the Bears in Week #2!

A Look Ahead #83

ESPN-Miles Austin- As discussed yesterday Austin has gone from the penthouse to #2 option in the Cowboys offense due to the presence of Dez Bryant. If you’re in a deep league Austin is a good #3 option at WR but if you’re in a 10-team league only time Austin will see your starting lineup will be bye weeks.

CBS Sports- Jeremy Maclin- The question for Maclin and DeSean Jackson is how will Chip Kelly’s offense affect their production. Maclin for the past two years even though regarded as the #2 option really was the #1 WR in Philly.

2012 #84 Miles Austin- WR Dallas Cowboys- Remember when Austin was the #1 target for Tony Romo and a real fantasy monster? Yep, that was 2009 Pre-Dez Bryant. Austin now is the #2 guy in Big D and unless Bryant gets hurt Miles will only be a guy you want to start in deep leagues or flex position. Austin stats last season were ok 66 catches 943 yards and 6 touchdowns. His best game was Week #8 against the NY Giants when he had 9 catches for 133 yards. Miles never scored 20 fantasy points in a week in 2012

Retro #84- 2002 Joey Galloway-WR Dallas Cowboys- Galloway had a very nice career but he was fantasy football fools gold. He could have a huge game 7-122-2TD’s or go 1-9 yards. He was frustrating to own because the weeks you needed him to produce he would always seem to find a way to disappoint.

Look Ahead 2013 #84

ESPN- DeSean Jackson- I’ve had Jackson in both my dynasty leagues since he entered the league and he’s a lot like Galloway. Frustrating and seems to become less productive in fantasy football. We will see if Kelly improves him or ends is fantasy value.

CBS Sports- Stevie Johnson- Johnson will have a new QB throwing the ball to him and probably a whole new offense so he is a truly a huge question mark going into 2013. Johnson though productive is always one of those character guys that I avoid. I know what you like and dislike can cost you in fantasy football but knuckle heads always seem to lose in the end.

Number 90 on our list is another defense. When Norv Turner was around the defense was better especially when they were getting to AFC playoffs only to lose to the New England Patriots. The Chargers defense had three big weeks and the rest were average.

#90-2012 Chargers Defense- 158 points 38 sacks 14 interceptions 14 Forced Fumbles. 7 defensive touchdowns. The Charges defense had three big weeks with two of them against their divisional rivals the Kansas City Chiefs. Their best week was #9 against the Chiefs with 1 sack, 1 interception, 3 forced fumbles and 2 touchdowns. This wouldn’t be my first defensive option but in deep leagues they are adequate.

Retro #90- 2002 Stephen Davis Carolina Panthers RB- 144 points 207 rushes 820 yards 7 touchdowns with 23 catches 142 yards 1 touchdown. Davis had two great seasons with 2002 in between both of them. Davis didn’t do much of anything after 2003 but his three year stretch in Carolina was very productive.

2013 Projected #90

ESPN- Tony Romo- Romo is a productive fantasy QB that will stink up the joint at least twice during the season which if you own him you have your fingers crossed that his crap game isn’t in the playoffs.

CBS Sportsline- Shonn Green- In one of the worst offenses in the NFL Green was able to carry the ball 276 times for 1064 yards and 8 TD’s. The offense in Jet land could be worse this year so Green should have buyer beware written all over him.

For the second straight day the player in our list is an unrestricted free agent. Not surprisingly both are well used running backs.

2012 #91- Michael Turner RB Free Agent The Burner wasn’t much of one his last couple of season in Atlanta but he was effective. In 2012 he carried the ball 223 times for 806 yards and 10 TD’s. His best game of the season was Week #9 against the Cowboys when he had 20 carries for 102 yards and 1 TD. Like Ahmad Bradshaw someone will have to get hurt for him to see real playing time in 2013.

Retro #91-2002 Jerry Porter WR Oakland Raiders- Porter had his third best season as a pro in 2002 and in our leagues would be heavily traded based on potential never realized. His 2002 stats were 51 catches 688 yards 9 TDs. Owners would discard him the follow year when he only caught one touchdown.

Looking Ahead 2013 #91

ESPN- Chris Givens WR St Louis Rams- Somebody has to catch the ball in St Louis. Givens is a burner so Tavon Austin will probably get all the real looks.

CBS Sports- DeAngelo Williams RB Carolina Panthers- He’s had one great season and the rest have been fantasy purgatory. I wouldn’t touch him if you forced me too well except last year when I was forced too. He’s a fantasy starting lineup killer.

Our first running back arrives on our list at #92. When I first started playing fantasy football the entire first round was all running backs, but the game has changed to a passing league and while running backs are still at a premium, quarterbacks and wide receivers are not creeping into the first rounds of drafts.

#92-2012

Ahmad Bradshaw-RB New York Giants- Bradshaw has been a frustrating player his entire career. First he stole goal line carries from Tiki Barber and then when he became the featured back was replaced at the goal line. Now he’s a man without a team with his constant injury problems. Last season stats were 1,015 yards rushing with 6 touchdowns while catching 23 balls for 235 yards. If he is signed I don’t see a big role for Bradshaw without a major injury on that team.

Retro #92- 2002

Martin Gramatica-kicker-Tampa Bay Buccanears 143 point “Automatica” had a very symmetrical season with 32 field goals and 32 extra points. When mentioning the Gramatica family one has to show this great video of the most bizarre sports injury

Looking Ahead #92

ESPN- Rashard Mendenhall- RB -Arizona Cardinals- Arriving in the desert will either be a blessing in disguise or like entering the witness protection system for Mendenhall.

CBS Sports- Danario Alexander- WR- San Diego Chargers- Phillip Rivers must like 6’5 Wide Receivers! Alexander had a breakout season after Vincent Jackson departed. The question is will Alexander be able to build on his 2012 season.

Our first defense shows up in the dog days and like kickers, defense teams can be fluky. Sometimes defenses get on a roll and never stop rolling, but it’s always buyer beware like the year I picked the New York Jets defense early in a re-draft league because my team was stacked and the Jets were disappointing to be nice all year long.

2012-#93 Cinncinnati Bengals Defense- This unit actually got better as the season went along and is the main reason that the Bengals were in the playoffs for the second straight season. Their best week was Week #15 against the Philadelphia Eagles when they had 4 sacks 1 Int, 1 fumble recovery and 1 Td. Their defense is pretty young so this should be one of the first defenses off the boards in most drafts.

Retro #93 2002- Todd Pinkston WR Philadelphia Eagles- Pinkston stats for the season were 60 catches for 798 yards and 7 touchdowns with his best game coming on Week 12 against the San Fransisco 49ers with 6 catches for 94 yards and 1 TD. My biggest memory of Pinkston was how small he looked and that I never had him on any of my teams.

Look Ahead #93

ESPN-Shane Vereen- RB New England Patriots- Vereen is more valuable for one simple reason—Danny Woodhead is no longer in New England.

CBS Sports-Tavon Austin WR St Louis Rams (Rookie) Austin is going very high in rookie only drafts and many expect him to step in right away and star in the Rams Wide Receiver corp.

The Fantasy dog days #94 gives us our first kicker. I know kickers are all within a few points by the end of the season, but the difference between winning and losing a lot of weeks can come down to whose kicker knocked in the last second field goal.

#94-2012

Connor Barth- 154 points, His best week was Week #13 against the Broncos when he kicked 3 field goals and 2 extra points. Barth only missed five field goals all season long and with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers offense ready to score Barth is as good as option as any when picking kickers in the last round of your fantasy draft.

Retro #94 2002

Pittsburgh Defense- The Steelers Defense was the 7th ranked fantasy defense in 2002 with 51 sacks 19 interception 17 fumble recoveries and 1 Td

Looking Ahead #94

ESPN-Benard Pierce RB Baltimore Ravens- This guy looked like a stud in the playoffs so expect most people that draft Ray Rice to be picking him up in the 5th or 6th rounds

CBS Sports- Bryce Brown RB Philadelphia Eagles- Looks like most experts like Brown going in the mid levels of the draft as a nice second option in Chip Kelly’s run happy offense.
