Wootton had better hope that he plays DE better than he sings because if he doesn’t, Shea McClellin or rookie Cornelius Washington could pass him on the depth chart.

Wootton had a breakthrough season last year and supplanted Israel Idonije as the starting DE opposite Julius Peppers, as he enters the final year of his deal with the Bears.

There are pretty high expectations on newest Chicago Bears tight end Martellus Bennett. Not only is he expected to help “save” the Bears offense, but he might be called upon to save the occasional fan as he did last season following the Giants’ win over the Packers.

If you haven’t had a chance to listen to the “the Black Unicorn” you have to watch this clip where he describes, in his own unique way, how he saved a falling fan (if you don’t see a video box below, click refresh on your browser):

He’s always been a black unicorn because he’s 50% black and 50% amazing. The Bears haven’t had a character like this on the team since the ’85 Bears. Ya gotta love it!

Calvin Johnson thought he caught a game-winning TD pass to beat the Bears and vault the Lions into first place atop the NFC North for the first time since the Clinton era. But a quirky rule of what defines a catch sent Johnson and the Lions home with their twenty-first consecutive road loss. Here’s the video clip:

Don’t get me wrong, as a Bears fan I’m thrilled with the call, but I think we all know a catch when we see one and that was a catch.

Here’s what referee Gene Steratore had to say about the controversial play after the game (via ChicagoBreakingSports.com) (more…)

We’re really starting to head into the calm before the storm that is the NFL season. Even the most hard-core coverage dwindles as teams get some final rest before the start of training camp, so news is sparse. Unless you want to know that the Bears are unlikely to go after Shawn Springs or wanted an update on Marty Booker’s real estate transactions, there’s not that much out there.

I grabbed a little video montage off YouTube to help fill your Bears void. The DeNiro speech as Al Capone from The Untouchable caught my attention. Check it out:

If you need a little more negativity to help balance out your Bears buzz, check out my dissection of Lovie Smith’s post-OTA interview with Sean Jensen in my ChicagoNow blog, Fire Lovie Smith. Can you guess what the tone might be?
