The real odds are not quite so dire, as an ESPN blog has the Bears as a 5-1 shot to land Cutler. (more…)

Looks like my wish to keep Bernard Berrian will not come true Bears fans. The end of the season talks with players sounds like many free agents will be leaving town for bigger pay checks.

I have come to terms with Lance Briggs leaving town to lead the defense in another city, probably with a sub-par team. He’ll get big money but I wonder if he can back it up.

Now it appears Bernard Berrian is going to run his last go-route out of town. The receiver turned down $8 million guaranteed money back in June. Unfortunately for the Bears, due to other teams resigning possible free agent receivers, Berrian will go into this off season as the Number 1 free agent wide receiver with his new agent, Drew (NFL Anti-Christ) Rosenhaus. He’ll command a huge salary that the Bears will not be able to entertain. I’ll bet at least a couple NFL teams bite at taking a bid at the downfield threat to improve their starved receivers corps. I bet a lot of Viking fans would love to see him wearing purple next year. How about putting him opposite Plaxico Burress in New York? Would Oakland take a chance on him like they did Randy Moss? Only time will tell.

I’ve even heard rumors that as a result of his Pro Bowl visits, Brendon Ayanbadejo is looking for a record contract for a special teamer. I don’t know about you, but the only special teamer on the Bears squad looking for a record deal should be Devin Hester. I love Ayabadejo’s hustle on the field, but that money could be better used elsewhere to upgrade positions.

The one bright spot so far has been Ruben Brown. The old veteran helped achor the offensive line last year after he delayed retirement to play along side Olin Kreutz. After he played the beginning of the season will basically one arm and announced he had to sit out the remainder of the year to heal, I figured him good as gone. This week Brown told reports that if the Bears want him back for another season he wil sign any contract they offer him. Pretty amazing words in this age of high price contracts. The idea of getting one of the best guards in the game for cheap and using that money to shore up the tackle position is amazing. Every great team starts with a great offensive line and if the Bears can come back next year with a solid, experienced, and healthy offensive line, they have a good chance to get back to the playoffs.
