When the clock strikes midnight the decision for Greg Jennings services could be made almost like out of a fairy tale but it could be a nightmare for one NFC North franchise. Although there are a couple sleeper teams out there like the KC Chiefs and Indy Colts, according to Rob Demovsky of the Green Bay Press Gazette if the Minnesota Vikings don’t sign Greg Jennings by midnight he could return to the Green Bay Packers.

NFL source just told me that if Jennings hasn’t signed with another team by midnight, he could be back with the #Packers.

— Rob Demovsky (@RobDemovsky) March 12, 2013

It actually seems like a basic battle of supply and demand with Jennings in the middle of the action. First off the Packers of a huge supply of quality wide receivers from Jordy Nelson, Randall Cobb, and James Jones so there is no reason for the Packers to overextend themselves on re-signing Jennings. Jennings is in his 7th season and although last season was injury prone he is a very good wide receiver that puts up big numbers when he’s on the field although he’s been blessed with having Brett Favre and Aaron Rodgers as his quarterback for his entire career.

On the other hand is the need part of the equation which is the Minnesota Vikings. After trading Percy Harvin on Monday and losing out on Mike Wallace when the free agent bell rang at 3pm Tuesday to the Miami Dolphins, the Vikings are in need of a #1 wide receiver. Jennings looks to be trying to get every last penny out of this deal and it’s hard to see who he’s trying to play to get the most dollars from. The one question for Jennings about going to the Vikings is that he would go from Aaron Rodgers at quarterback to Christian Ponder. One of the stories on Twitter as reasons that Harvin wanted out of Minnesota besides a huge contract was playing with Ponder so does Jennings really want that big of a drop off? It seems that the Vikings really need Jennings so will they step up and offer him a big contract to fill Harvin’s void before the clock strikes midnight?

It’s an NFC North showdown, will the Packers get the hometown discount or will Jennings wear purple in the fall?

A major thorn in the Bears side for the past seven years, in the best rivalry in the NFL, was released on Friday. Charles Woodson who made a living tormenting the Bears and in particular Jay Cutler was released from the Green Bay Packers and gave the Packers 10 million dollars to play with.

Woodson at age 36 ,was the 2nd oldest defensive back in the league behind only Ronde Barber ,was a very impactful player for the last seven seasons in Green Bay. Woodson was a huge part of the defense that found another level to achieve in their Super Bowl run. Woodson has 55 career interceptions with 11 of them returned for touchdowns, but only one this past season and of course it was against Cutler.

Woodson always seemed to save his best games for the Bears so to say he won’t be missed is an understatement.

The Lions started cutting the fat off the roster yesterday with the release of Titus Young aka “I’m better than Megatron”.

Today, the Lions cut veteran defensive end Kyle Vanden Bosch and guard Stephen Peterman. Vanden Bosch, who has an endless motor, was pretty productive in his Lions 3 year stop collecting 15.5 sacks in 43 games, Vanden Bosch started all 16 games this past season. Age is probably the reason for both of their releases with Vanden Bosch turning 34 and Peterman, who started all 16 games last season as well, is 31.

The Lions look to be cutting ties and making salary cap room this week while getting rid of one of their many bad apples in Titus Young. The Lions had to be one of the biggest disappointments of the 2012 season so a roster overhaul had to be in order.

With the power restored and the Super Bowl over it’s now time to fast forward right to the NFL combine and the Draft. Here are some quick looks at the draft needs around the NFC North

1. Detroit Lions- What a disappointing season for the Lions, but it was almost expected after the horrible offseason they endured. The Lions weakness, if you were able to give your quarterback anytime at all, was the secondary. The cornerbacks especially were beaten routinely by every team in the league, so no matter how good or bad Suh was, the defensive line could not consistently keep enough pressure on the quarterback to hide the secondary for 60 minutes. The Lions could look to move down in the draft because their aren’t any superstar cornerbacks in this draft and taking one at pick #5 would be a reach.

2. Minnesota Vikings pick 23rd and it’s still hard to imagine how they were in the playoffs while the Bears were home watching it on the TV. The biggest problem the Vikings had besides inconsistent play from Christian Ponder at times during the season, was the lack of playmaker on the outside to go along with Percy Harvin and Adrian Peterson. Look for the Vikings to pick a WR when their turn comes around, or it is possible for them to take a defensive lineman if the right WR prospect isn’t to their liking because the line isn’t getting any younger.

3. Green Bay Packers- Another team in the North that can score with ease but struggled on the defensive side of the ball (except against the Bears) Replacing Charles Woodsen has to be high on their priority list going into the draft. The other position to look at for the Packers is offensive tackle, everyone talks about the Bears struggles but Aaron Rodgers was hit a lot this past season. If the right prospect drops to #26 look for the Packers to go offensive line and address the secondary needs later in the draft.
