The NFL has been re-stocking their coffers, doling out some juicy fines over the last few days. Chad Ochocinco’s $1 bribe to an official cost him $20,000 more. Tommie Harris dropping a Deuce (Litui)? $7500.

Just to add a little insult to injury, Jay Cutler has been fined $20k for “abusive conduct” toward the referee in last Sunday’s loss to the Arizona Cardinals.

Here’s ESPN’s Adam Schefter’s tweet:

Jay should be fined for abusive conduct toward Bears fans and the game of football, because his 5 INT night last night in the Bears 10-6 loss to the 49ers set modern quarterbacking back a few decades. Salt, meet wound.

If they want to fine Cutler, they should start fining him by the interception. By the end of the season, they’ll make way more money that way.

As I saw tweeted by Vaughn McClure, Jay should have just punched the ref – it only cost Tommie $7500 for throwing a punch.

BEAR DOWN!!!

I am back and fully recovered from whatever funk was making its rounds through my house…although that was nothing compared to the funk, known as the Cleveland Browns that made its round through Soldier Field last Sunday…geez…I knew they were bad, but as a Bears fan, I am not even sure it is fair to count that as a win. Regardless, I’ll take it and here’s to hoping the Beloved take care of the Cardinals this week. I am sure Boomer will queue up some old Denny Green clips for us, so I will leave that to him…BTW, Boomer, Bart, myself and a large crew of our extended “family” were at that game in 2006 in Arizona where Denny Green “crowned our ass!!!” Greatest game I have ever been to, bar none!!! Anyway, on to the picks for this week…feel free to e-mail me if you have any last minute questions at beargoggles.decon@gmail.com.

Guys I Like this Week

Aaron Rodgers @ Tampa Bay – What’s a good cure for sore feet for a QB? How about facing a Tampa D that has allowed 9 plays of more than 40 yds or more through the air, 16 passing TDs and has only mustered 11 sacks. Yeah, they are that bad and should be changing back to the old creamsicle uniforms for good.

Chad Ochocinco vs Baltimore – Ocho has been RED HOT and you gotta ride him. The Balt D comes in ranked 19th against the pass and while I think they can contain Ced much better than the Bears did, I think they will manage about as well against Ocho as the Bears did or maybe worse. Tweet, Tweet!!!

Julius Jones vs Detroit – The Edge is gone and Forsett isn’t ready to steal many carries and likely won’t be a factor at the goalline. Seattle needs to keep Hasselbeck upright for the rest of the season, so expect a lot of Juice Jones to keep the Lions off balance. Plus, we are talking about the Lions D, right? Go with Juice!

Matt Schaub/Andre Johnson @ Indy - The Colts may be starting at least 1 and likely 2 rookies at their CB positions this week…that’s right…rookies…Schaub and AJ must be licking their chops. Even if the starters play, they will be limited by injuries and, ”Houston, we could have takeoff!!!” (more…)

It’s old home week as the Bears prepare to face a couple of familiar faces in Bengals‘ Cedric (The Complainer) Benson and Tank (Guns ‘n Ammo) Johnson. I had the chance to go behind enemy lines and lob some questions and answers back and forth with Bengals blogger Mickey from Who Dey Fans this week. Be sure to check out my answers to his questions by clicking here. Here are my questions and his answers:

Bears fans remember Cedric Benson as a bust in Chicago. Is he for real? If so, what have the Bengals done to get the most out of him?
- After last season and the Chris Perry experiment gone wrong the Bengals were searching for an answer at running back. When they picked up Cedric Benson I was very optimistic. After all he is a very talented runner and was the 4th overall pick for a reason. I do remember from his days in Chicago running into the pile and falling on first contact. However, the Cedric in Cincinnati is a guy that runs hard, gets a bunch of yards after contact and finishes runs strong. He is definitely for real in Cincinnati and I think his time away from the game allowed him to focus a little more on his motivation and work ethic. (more…)

It’s only Monday, but the Bengals’ Chad Ochocinco is already waist deep in smack talking or tweeting as it goes in today’s day and age. You see, nowadays, you don’t need to bother with extra layers of media and press conferences. Today, you just jump on your Twitter account, locate your next opponents and off you go.

Chad jumped on it right away this morning, calling out Jay Cutler, Alex Brown, Jason McKie, Tommie Harris, Devin Hester and even Bears beat reporter Zach Zaidman!

His exchange with @jaycutler went a little something like this: (more…)

It was a bizarre week in the NFL and Fantasy World for me. First of all, if you subscribed to my BOA picks last week, I apologize as I was proven wrong on all 3 picks. Further evidence to the bizzare nature of the week that was week 5 in the NFL is that my fantasy football team, Ming’s Merciless beat Lower the Boom (I will let you guess whose team that is, but he is also a blogger on Bear Goggles) when I had 6 regular starters on a bye and had to fill in with my entire bench. It was certainly unreal and perhaps put one more nail in the coffin of Lower the Boom’s season unless he makes some trades with me.

On to week 6…the Bears are back and I hope my GOOD picks are too…

What a week for the Beloved and a great bounce back game for Jay Cutler against the defending champ Pittsburgh Steelers. I hope my DeCon’s Blessing about JC from my Week 2 picks worked out for you. JC didn’t have a great game, but he did what he was brought in to do…take the last possession with an opportunity to win the game and WIN THE GAME!!! That’s all I need from #6 and I think we will have a great season if he has the ball late.

Week 3 takes the Beloved to Seattle and also marks the site of the annual pilgrimage of my Brothers (aka very long-time friends) to see the Bears play on the road. Watch out SeaChicken fans, The Brotherhood is coming and Qwest Field may never be the same again. Wish us luck and forgiving law enforcement. Now, I ascend my pulpit to do some preaching for Week 3. This week is slightly truncated since I just became a father for the 3rd time on Saturday and because I still need to pack for my trip to Seattle. (more…)
