The Bears finally did what we’ve been expecting them to do since the offseason circus started -they brought in Lovie’s pal Mike Martz to interview for the vacant offensive coordinator position.

I have heard some rumblings on the radio from The Score’s own Terry Boers that Lovie wanted to bring in Martz right out of the blocks but GM Jerry Angelo vetoed him. Was this just a bogus rumor? Me no think so.

If Martz wasn’t being blocked by Angelo, why the wait to bring him in for so much as an interview? Has Jerry been humbled to realize that no one else is interested in the one-and-done gig?

No one that I’ve talked to is really pining for Martz nor have they been since his name surfaced about 2.4 seconds after Ron Turner and Company were jettisoned to start the offseason. Check out the Bears’ nifty little PR slight-of-hand. They trot in a couple of QB coaches and get a few guys to reject them, and suddenly the Mad Scientist doesn’t look that bad. Could this have been the diabolical plan all along? Nope. No one on the Bears is smart enough to hatch that beauty.

Martz certainly comes in with a lot of baggage. He was fired from DC-to-be Rod Marinelli’s staff in Detroit. He comes in with a reputation of putting quarterbacks at risk with his numerous 7-step drops.

Speaking of quarterbacks, he doesn’t think much of Cutler. Check out his comments from earlier this season after Jay’s post-game press conference following the season opener:

“He just doesn’t get it,” Martz said [on NFL Network's new show The Head Coaches]. “He doesn’t understand that he represents a great head coach and the rest of those players on that team … somebody needs to talk to him.”

Well maybe Martz will get his chance to give Jay that talking to.

Not sure if Martz’s Greatest Show on Turf will play on the sloppiest turf in the NFL but maybe we’ll get to find out. Whatever the Bears decide to do, they need to do it quickly and just get this over with.

Now that Jeremy Bates is off to Seattle, a couple of new names have bubbled to the surface as candidates in the Great Coordinator Search: Jim Zorn and Kevin Gilbride. CSN Chicago’s Kip Lewis is reporting:

Gilbride could potentially join the team as the offensive coordinator, whereas Zorn could serve as either the quarterbacks’ coach, the offensive coordinator, or both.

CSN was the first to report that Lovie wasn’t going anywhere, so maybe they’re not completely full of it.

Wouldn’t it be fitting that the guy who got his defensive playcalling responsibilities stripped from him (Lovie) hires a guy who had his offensive playcalling duties taken away (Zorn) last season? At least they’ve got something in common, right?
