Key Matchups as Bears Look to Hunt Down Some Panthers

This week we will observe one of nature’s great rivalries, Bears (3-1) vs. Panthers(0-4) and break down the key matchups. It will be a true battle for dominance between a wise old grizzly, Bears QB Todd Collins and a young cub, Panthers QB Jimmy Clausen. The two will lead their packs into the wild kingdom that is Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, NC.

The Bears have their reputations on the line as a real contender in the NFC, but will be without their alpha male, QB Jay Cutler (concussion). The Panthers, after losing their first four games, limp into week 5 and will most likely be without their ferocious WR Steve Smith (injured paw). They will have to rely on two young kittens, WR David Gettis and WR Brandon LaFell, to protect the Panther’s home den. Let’s take a look at some key matchups that will help decide this week struggle for NFL survival:

The DeCon’s Week 13 Fantasy Football Plays

My apologies for not getting this out prior to the Thursday Night game on the NFL Network, but the Jets vs the Bills in Toronto didn’t inspire me too much. As I mentioned to Boomer before the game, I expected a FG war and that is damn near what we got. One thing I will say, is Darrelle Revis is a beast! I sat T(eam) O(bliterator) on one of my teams and I am glad I did.

As you head into the playoffs, beware of your WRs playing against Revis…I am talking to you owners of Roddy White (week 14) and Reggie Wayne (week 15) as Revis could dampen your playoff spirits. You always have to roll with your studs and White and Wayne qualify as such, but hopefully the rest of your roster can pick you up if Revis continues to climb to the top of the CB mountain. This is likely the last week of your regular season and you might be jockeying for playoff position, so hopefully I can be some help to you as you fill out your lineups…

Guys I Like

Matt Forte vs St. Louis – Playing against the 28th ranked D against the run that has allowed 16 TDs on the ground this season better be able to cure the Bears running game. If nothing else, maybe this will be a reason to watch the Beloved as they play out the string.
DeAngelo Williams vs Tampa Bay – Thankfully, Jake Delhomme is likely to sit this week and the Panthers running game should be in full effect. Add to that the fact that D-Will has run for 338 yds and 4 TDs against the Bucs in his last 2 games against them and you should be very happy with his performance. D-Will does have an ankle, but he is expected to be full go on Sunday.
Jeremy Maclin @ Atlanta - With DeSean Jackson concussed, Maclin’s targets should increase significantly. With the Eagles O 3rd in the league in passing plays of more than 20 yds with 53, you can likely count of Maclin for some big numbers.
Brandon Marshall @ Kansas City - Denver seems to have righted the ship with Ole Neckbeard at the helm and B-Marsh should shred the KC secondary struggles with tall wide bodied WRs. B-Marsh should be no exception. (more…)

The DeCon’s (abbreviated) Week 11 Fantasy Picks

I still need some time to sift through the rest of the slate this week, but I wanted to give you some thoughts on the game tonight featuring the Miami Dolphins @ the Carolina Panthers. I actually think this could be a great game, although I will say for the record, I HATE THURSDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL. Not only do the players have significantly less time to rest, but it just screws up the whole rhythm of fantasy football in my opinion.

Guys I Like in This Game

DeAngelo Williams – Miami’s rush D is stingy about yards allowed, but they have also allowed 10 rushing TDs, which is the 4th highest total in the NFL. D-Will is a stud and despite him not practicing yesterday, expect him to play as Carolina has very quietly crept up to the fringe of the bubble teams. Plus, he will have 10 days to rest after this one.
Ricky Williams - My good friend’s know, I have always been a supporter of Ricky and I have never ever smoked dope. Just always liked his attitude on the field to fight for yards and I think he will have a good game, especially since Ronnie Brown is now out for the season.
Steve Smith - Delhomme hasn’t thrown a INT in the last 3 games…as a Bears fan, I wish I could say that about our QB. That said, Jake is limiting his mistakes and starting to find Steve Smith again, so I say ride the hot hand and get Smitty active tonight. Also, it doesn’t hurt that the Miami D ranks 27th against the pass.

The DeCon’s Week 7 Fantasy Football Picks

There is a light load in the NFL with 6 teams on a bye, so there will undoubtedly be a lot of activity on your league’s waiver wire as people look to fill out their rosters. You should try to take advantage of this activity to either block your opponents who may be after someone and there are some quality pick-ups out there in case you are being hit with the bye week bug. I will discuss that more below, but here are my opinions of some players not on a bye this week…

Stone Tablet Locks – chisel these guys in stone as MUST PLAYS this week.

DeAngelo Williams vs Buffalo – While the Bills won last week over the spiraling Jets, they did let up more than 200 yards on the ground to Thomas Jones. This, despite the fact that Sanchez was handing them the game and they could have loaded up on the run. Expect D-Wil to come close to matching his performance of last week and he should be a starter in all formats.
Colts DST @ St. Louis – Bob Sanders is back AND they play the Lambs??? The Colts DST should be in for a huge day!
