Look out, Brandon Marshall – you’re not the only big target receiver for Jay Cutler anymore. The 6-foot-3, 213-pound rookie Alshon Jeffery is already making his presence known on the Bears’ offense.

While he may not make the sudden impact that A.J. Green did for the Bengals last season, Cutler still sees plenty of potential in the wideout.

“I don’t think we’re going to necessarily need that kind of production out of Alshon,” Cutler said Thursday on “The Waddle & Silvy Show” on ESPN 1000. “I think he’s fully capable of that kind of production, but we’ll pick and choose where we use him, what he’s best suited for. In the coming years I can see him being just a dominant force out there.”

Jeffery racked up 183 receptions for 3042 yards and 23 touchdowns during his career at South Carolina. While he struggled with injuries and weight issues at times, he showed enough to the Bears’ scouts to garner a 2nd-round draft pick.

Cutler and the Bears can only hope that he can reach the potential that so many saw in him after his phenomenal sophomore campaign.

“Alshon, he started a little bit slow but he’s come on very, very strong,” Cutler said. “Big guy. Does a lot of things naturally. You don’t have to coach him. He’s a born, natural receiver.”

“My favorite is (Brent) Seabrook,” Briggs said, referring to the Blackhawks defenseman. “You know where I come from. I’m a defensive guy. … And he’s a comical guy as well. I’m also a big fan of (Marian) Hossa, too.”

Those defensive guys stick together, huh? And speaking of defense, Briggs really likes what newly promoted defensive coordinator Rod Marinelli has in store for opposing teams next season. (more…)
