Former Chicago Bears Coach Lovie Smith Plays Favorites in Television Debut

Former Chicago Bears head coach Lovie Smith turned to the dark side, becoming what he hated – a member of the media – when he made is ESPN debut as an analyst. He couldn’t hep (that’s help in Lovie-speak) but play favorites when discussing a couple of his former players, Jay Cutler and Brian Urlacher.

Before we get into that, we got to hear from Lovie for the first time since Phil Emery dismissed him at the end of last season:

“It was tough,” Smith said. “But that is the NFL. You are disappointed. You mention 7-1, but it’s hard to win in the NFL. For us to finish 3-5 and finish up with a 10-6, it’s hard. But my nine years in Chicago were great. Met a lot of great people. My family loved it. It was just time for them to go in a different direction. I’m going to do the same.”

Cutler, Marshall Share Laughs On Radio Show

A couple of days ago on his ESPN Radio talk show, Jay Cutler fielded a call from “Brandon in Chicago” who turned out to be none other than his favorite receiver and close friend, Brandon Marshall. The two joke back and forth regarding Cutler’s first quarter interception against the Jaguars last weekend, which Marshall says was his fault. The star receiver also reveals something about Cutler that many Bears fans may not know.

It’s good to see this side of both Cutler and Marshall off the field. Their chemistry and friendship is undeniable. Let’s just hope the winning ways continue for the Bears and we can enjoy some more humorous moments such as this in the future.

Jay Cutler and the Bears are rising to the top of NFL Power Rankings.

We have all heard Bill Parcells line, “You’re as good as your record says you are,” and it looks like people are hesitantly starting to believe it about the 2010 Chicago Bears. College football has the BCS and the NFL has their power rankings. Yes, power rankings are very arbitrary and subjective and honestly can be a waste of time to read. But, who doesn’t check them out now and again just to disagree with 90% of the picks? At least some people are finally giving the Bears some love, so here’s a look at a few top ten lists from around the web:

Madden ’11 Rates the Chicago Bears

It is almost time for the second Christmas Eve in my world and that is the night before Madden ’11 is released!!! Now, I don’t go and wait in lines at midnight and take the whole next day off to play the game. I do have a day job. However, on my way home from work on August 14, I will make a stop to pick up the latest installment of the greatest video game franchise of ALL TIME!!!

So, how do the Bears rate??? In a word…SHITTY!!! I guess the Bears will have some work to do to improve their ratings when updated rosters and ratings are released during the season. Here are some highlights after the jump:

Ebenezer Ditka Rips Cutler and Bears (Video)

Ebenezer Ditka? I couldn’t make this stuff up. Check out this little bit that Da Coach did for the Worldwide Leader:

I’m glad he got it right by the end of the video, because the first ‘Beh Humbug’ really disappointed me. Can’t argue with what he said – he’s dead on, although now the Cutler-meter stands at 25.

I think if we wanted to play out A Christmas Carol a bit more, it should be Ebenezer McCaskey getting visited by the ghosts of Christmas past, present and future. I’m not that up on my old Christmas movie trivia, so help me out. Who should play the roles of the Ghosts in our Bears version of this story? For me, I’m hoping Lovie is the coach of Christmas past ASAP!

I love how they get a parting shot in at Rex Grossman. Poor Rexy! It’s a really interesting discussion that they have to ruin at the end by talking about the Giants being the most dangerous team in the NFC. Puh-lease! You thought the Bears had no receivers? Aside from Jailbird Burress, name a Giants receiver? They’ve got a solid running back in Brandon Jacobs who will be broken by Week 8 and $97 million dollar QB Eli Manning with no one to throw to. Sure they have a decent defense, but as we Bears fans all know, that only gets you so far.
