We had a lot of fun talking about the game tonight against Arizona as well as discussing the business of the Bears, based on a Forbes article about how the Bears are missing lots of opportunities to maximize their revenue and a post I wrote about it on my ChicagoNow blog, FIRE LOVIE SMITH.

I was lucky enough to head down to Tribune Tower on Saturday morning to do a radio appearance on WGN’s ChicagoNow Radio. My FIRE LOVIE SMITH blog is part of the ChicagoNow network, so they’re kind enough to invite me on every once in a while to chat about the Bears.

This time, I joined hosts Alex Quigley and Amy Guth along with another ChicagoNow Bears blogger, Ismael Seguban, who writes Bears STH, which stands for Season Ticket Holder. You would think that someone who spends his hard-earned money would be a little more critical of the product, but not this guy. He drinks the orange and blue Kool Aide shamelessly. Check out the podcast of our 30 minute segment:

What can I say, they must be really hard-up for guests because the kind folks at ChicagoNow Radio invited me back to talk about what happened (or didn’t happen) this past week up at Halas Hall.

I joined Bill Leff to talk about my ChicagoNow blog FIRE LOVIE SMITH and general Bears conversation. We took a few calls and had some fun at the Bears‘ expense. Check out the podcast from the show below:

Be sure to check back often here at Bear Goggles On and at FIRE LOVIE SMITH. Even though the regular season is over and the Bears didn’t fire Lovie, we’ll be on top of all things Chicago Bears all offseason.

“Don’t blame it on Lovie,” Harris said. “It ain’t Lovie’s fault. You better check out the higher sources. Everybody needs to be held accountable. Don’t start pointing the blame. If we’re going to start cutting, we need to start cutting from the top to the bottom.

“Look at the track record. Look who we brought in to make this team better. Look at all our pieces. Go from the top to the bottom. Don’t throw anybody under the bus. If you messed up, you messed up.”

On the day after the East Coast was buried under nearly two feet of snow, the Chicago Bears were buried by the Baltimore Ravens, falling 31-7 in yet another humiliating loss. If you didn’t have the stomach for the game or if you were busy shoveling, here is a link to the lowlights.

After the game, talk of job security and votes of confidence dominated the postgame discussion. That seems to be at the core of the problem; there is more concern about saving jobs and laying blame for another forgettable season rather than attempting to actually, oh, I don’t know, formulate a goddamn game plan and coaching this team.

In a sequence that is emblematic of the 2009 Chicago Bears, the Ravens miss a field goal attempt just after the 2-minute warning. The Bears have a perfect opportunity to march down the field to tie the score and build some momentum heading into the half. The first play was a failed screen pass to Matt Forte, where Jay Cutler had to chuck the ball into the dirt. The next play is a handoff to Forte.

As the play breaks down and appears to be going nowhere, instead of going down in bounds, Forte inexplicably goes out of bounds to stop the clock. Now it’s 3rd and 10 with still well over a minute left to go in the half. Cutler drops back to pass, but as he usually does, runs for his life. But Cutler also runs out of bounds. Ravens get the ball back without having to burn a time out.

Ray Lewis led the Ravens over Jay Cutler and the Bears

Ultimately, the play didn’t cost the Bears, as the Ravens stalled in their drive, but it’s just such a good example of the utter lack of discipline and coaching.
